Title: Computer gurus, please help.
Post by: mgdavis on January 09, 2007, 09:58:03 AM
My computer locked me out. It refuses to recognize my password. The last thing I did was install iTunes 7 and restart. Yesterday I had tried to disable the password prompt, but apparently it didn't take. I had to enter my password this morning.
I'm lost, please help.
HP dv1010us laptop, Windows XP.

XP Pro or home?

If it's pro, and you didn't disable the default "Administrator" account, you should be able to get in.

If not, you can use a live CD like UBCD and use the password reset tool to reset your password on your regular account.

Disregard. I got frustrated and just left the password field blank and hit OK. For reasons that are a mystery to me it worked. The password is re-enabled now, so hopefully this won't remanifest itself.
Nick, it's XP Home, thanks for the quick reply.
If anybody knows what happens, I'd love it if you would share.

When you install ANYTHING on a computer with XP, always restart the computer before using the new program. XP has a way of wanting to check everything during boot up. This so that it will crash properly.

Sorry Lever.   Had to fix that typo for you.....

I have to say, I went from Win98 to XP Pro and I couldn't be happier.

This is the most stable computer I have ever owned. No crashes, no blue screens it just works.

Makes me realize how much Windows sucked before it came out.

Macs are much more stable and easier to use than a PC.  Just ask this guy.

yeah, I have to agree with that assessment. XP has been a LOT more reliable for me, and I REALLY liked Windows 98SE.
