And I thought immigration was a leprous issue that no politician would touch...
Do we have personal growth with Mike, or a gimmick never to be honored?

by Mike Huckabee
Yesterday, I signed the following pledge:
"I pledge to oppose amnesty or any other special path to citizenship for the millions of foreign nationals unlawfully present in the United States. As President, I will fully implement enforcement measures that, over time, will lead to the attrition of our illegal immigrant population. I also pledge to make security of our borders a top priority of my administration."
Important points:
1. The 12 million illegal immigrants now here will have to go home.
2. They will not get any legal status while here that allows them to remain long-term.
3. Once in their home countries, they may apply for re-admittance to the U.S. as immigrants, visitors or temporary workers through normal channels.
4. Once in their home countries, they will not receive any special privileges on the basis of their having been in the U.S. illegally, such as being put to the front of a visa line.
5. There will be no new categories or programs through which they may re-enter the U.S.
6. There will not be an expansion of green cards in any existing categories that will speed up their movement to the front of the line.
(The Governor agreed to this pledge made to the American people with his public signing before the national media on Jan. 16, 2008 at North Greenville University, South Carolina.)

Just a sad attempt to grasp at straws.
You know it is funny, Ron Paul has done these things since the beginning, it seems that Huckabee is trying to copy Ron Paul's positions.

Yes, it was written on the Rosetta Stone what Ron Paul's positions are. They date back to time before time, before language. NOTHING CAME BEFORE LORD PAUL!!!!1111one
Why, in fact, they're so old that he never acted on any of them in any of his years as a legislator!
Oh, right. He did vote against protecting gun makers, though. Is that still part of his platform?

Methinks Huckleberry is....

Well, he did, didn't he?

New story out about Huckabee's connection with the Council of Concerned Citizens - ie successor to the White Citizen's Council, only slightly less white nationalist than Paul's supporters, etc..

It's beyond me why, someone in a high political position, Lt. Governor at the time he is said to have accepted the invitation, then sending a taped speech after he became governor of Arkansas, would be stupid enough to think it wouldn't catch up with him.
Whether you like his alleged association with this group or not, I wouldn't want someone that stupid as President.

Yeah, convictions that run so deep He's devoted his entire political career about fixing said problem.
you called it, manedwolf.
I'm very much currious on the Huckabee thing, though I don't think I would vote for him anyway...

I did a bit of searching on wooderson's claim and from what I found, it appears it is indeed true.
-
Wooderson - do you mean Council of Conservative Citizens?
They don't seem too fond of him nowadays, he's the 'Socialist from Arakansas [sic]'
-
Oops, yeah, Conservative.
-
So we're defending bigotry now?
-
If bigotry is wanting people from another country to stop breaking the laws in this one, I guess we are.
This reminds me of a great "joke" email I got long ago:
I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family, and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.
I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same way you do here.
So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flagpole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my housetop, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and dont enforce any labor laws or tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that Pres. Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely. However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flagpole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.
If your children require constant reminders as to their country of origin, there might be some issues you want to tackle before worrying about flags.
Just sayin'.

That one requires a grasp of political current events, and it just so happens I'm in a position to educate you..

Huckabee isn't accountable to such mere mortals as ourselves, only to God. In other words, fudging the truth is permitted for the higher cause of his election.
As for bigotry, it is unfortunate that this country is rapidly devolving into tribalism, but apparently it's only okay for "people of color" to unabashedly support Their Own. Sorry, I'm not giving those bigots a pass. I find the whole anti-Individualist atmosphere invidious.
-
Um, bigjake, that in no way altered what I said.
-
But what you said is pretty much beside the point of the joke/email.
