The Iraq Study Group Report...
« on: January 31, 2007, 01:51:33 AM »
Anybody else reading it? I just came to an interesting "recommendation":

The heading is "The Way Forward - A New Approach"

They recommend the launching of a "New Diplomatic Offensive"

So under that we get to Recommendation #4:

"As an instrument of the New Diplomatic Offensive, an Iraq International Support Group should be organized following the launch of the New Diplomatic Offensive."

A SUPPORT GROUP? I find that amusing...  laugh

"HI, I'm Iraq and I'm torn by internal as well as external strife."

"Hi Iraq!!"

News item today:

Quote
LONDON (Reuters) - The United States and its allies must pay more attention to 'psychological warfare' as they battle insurgents in        Iraq and        Afghanistan, an influential think-tank said on Wednesday.

"Insurgents and jihadists have proved adept at conducting successful information campaigns that reach a global audience and foment violence elsewhere," the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) said.

"But Western militaries have shown insufficient capability in their own attempts to carry out information and psychological operations, its annual report, "The Military Balance," said.

Kind of hard to do when your own press instantly exposes all your operations.

Contradicting Democracy: Rumsfeld's Pentagon to merely oversee disinformation campaign in Iraq
Finally, after months and months of debating inside the Pentagon, the defense agency issued a report insisting that it should no longer pay Iraqi journalists to insert propaganda into Iraqi newspapers because it goes against the democratic belief in free press.

Hmm, I thought all those "liberated" iraqis already had their "free and democratic" elections. And, as the we-hate-bush-liberal-left-oppose-the-war (but all obliging) media had stated, with those ink stained thumbs and smiling un-burka'd faces; "the iraqi people have spoken". Wink

Now we have to brainwash them all over again? Why are western military people going to interfere with information in a country now run by it's own "freely elected" government?

That's ok, I just got to the part where it talks about including Iran and Syria in this "support group". It claims Syria wants to open dialogue but Iran may be more "problematic". Ya think?  rolleyes They sound like a bunch of therapists.

Was it Stonewall Jackson who called the press a bunch of spies and traitors? Things ain't changed much.
