I have not personally tried PBR, I wonder if it will change at all now?

PBR isn't bad for a cheap beer.  This is the bulk beer I take camping with me now.

Well, stop by the filling station and pick up a tall boy. Only way to be sure if you like or dislike is to try it.

Last time I had pabst was from a keg about 20 years ago- it was pretty good. I've never had pabst that wasn't made in Milwaukee, and probably never will. (The Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee closed in the mid 1990s).

Huh, I had no idea they made Rainier and Olympia. Sad how many local breweries have been absorbed by the mega-conglomerates.

No, I was just remarking on the "You don't know if you like it until you try it" aspect.

I have actually seen (drunk) gay guys use that as a pickup line on people they knew were straight.

That is another common phase said here about unusual items, usually food or drink. Nothing homosexual about it.

Well, if they're the ones that pulled Lone Star Dark, then they should have just packed up and left the country right then.

I drank PBR from aluminum cans for nearly forty years. I drank enough for five or six people. It was my #1 choice.

The red white and blue won't be quite the same.

It was in the '70's and '80's when a lot of the smaller, independent breweries were bought by the bigger ones.   Resulting in the same-same flavorless sparkling beer water of the 90's across the major brands (and the demise of the smaller ones).

The Microbrew revolution has turned that around.  American beers are no longer like making love in a canoe.

However, I fear that there will be some contraction and consolidation in the next few years.

Yeah, I drank PBR about 30++ years ago, when I didn't fit in with the white collar crowd.   ;)

Also really liked Oly at one time  =|

PBR was the beer of choice in the early 60's for my crowd.  Went to Daytona Beach for Spring Break in 1963 and PBR was 69 cents a 6 pack.

I think it started for me after seeing the movie "Gimme Shelter". In it one of the Hells Angels is holding a can of PBR in his half-gloved hand. I thought he looked cool.

It was either that or PBR was the best I could afford.

Miller... MillerCoors has been making it under contract for over a decade now, so in reality it is still being made in Milwaukee, or at least some of it is.

"Pabst Inc." has just been a shell company holding the brand and farming out the marketing ever since the Milwaukee plant and HQ closed.
I promise not to duck.

I remember my father and uncles drinking Hamms and then the Hamms commercials with the bear that played during Royals' games.  Family friend that owned a liquor store had a Hamms beer bear in his home bar.  Thing stood 6 feet tall I think.

I hear you - back in the '70s when I was still in Chicago, PBR was almost the only CHEAP beer available locally that was drinkable. (Hamm's was OK, too. Used to advertise it during White Sox games a lot.)

And CHEAP? IIRC, a case of 24 cans cost the princely sum of $4 at a local liquor warehouse, considerably less than Heileman's Old Style or my then-favorite, Heileman's Special Export.

Haven't had any of these since moving to TX . . .

There's a blast from the past.

Anyone remember Carling's Black Label beer? I remember the ad jingle from their TV and radio spots:

"Hey, Mabel.
Black Label.
Carling's Black Label beer."

Pretty catchy, huh?
