Looks like the Army screwed up in kicking him out of helo school.

Noticed that too. My guess is there must have been disciplinary/personality issues, or maybe he was too much the hot dog and didn't follow curriculum/protocol.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

You would think that the Army would have learned that it wants a bit of a "hot dog" in their pile-its.

The first two ring a bell. There was a similar scene in the Mel Gibson movie, We were soldiers once. I'm pretty sure that was about Ia Drang.

Great movie!
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.
I meet lots of folks like this, claim to be anarchist but really they're just liberals with pierced genitals. - gunsmith

Great movie!

I didn't think so -- brought up too much stuff I thought I had successfully forgotten. My wife later apologized for encouraging me to watch it.

And I wasn't even at Ia Drang.

Yes, Crandall and Freemen earned their CMH's for their actions at LZ X-Ray which was the fight portrayed in We Were Soldiers.  I've met Walter Marm.
