That answers one question I had about astronaut selection... would having herpes simplex disqualify someone from astronaut selection.  Evidently not.  Not in the least, since they've had enough astronauts with it to perform a statistically significant study.

A side-note:  Don't sleep with an astronaut.  Wow.

And now I really don't want to visit the ISS, since it's a floating petri dish of astronaut biomatter.

I have to wonder if the study accounted for the increased viral reactivation as a result of general stress resultant from the dangers of spaceflight, versus some element of microgravity or radiation?

Since the majority of the human population has herpes, it would be hard to eliminate candidates based on that alone.

Stinks but apparently the cold sore organisms hate it, too.

Like a chom it voiks.  For other stuff too.

Would probably choke up the ISS's air purifiers, though.

Can't see it being used on tractor seats.
