The news article should have been titled "Whiny Billionaire puts up millions to buy phony grassroots organization in attempt to get his way".

I agree with Charby on the blowing dough. Anyway, it's pretty much his schtick at this point - blow tons of money on "this will change everything" stuff that either crashes and burns or dies with a whimper. Either way, hooray for our side. :)

Polls show majority support for the initiative making them mandatory, as well as the initiative banning making them mandatory. 

There's a thread by Millcreek about it on here. Hard to say how it'll go. The "elected a literal Socialist" folks in Seattle will go for it, the rurals will largely oppose it. Not sure who has strength in numbers.

Is this group a spin off or replacement of that/those groups?  I lose track of the astroturf orgs.

No, he is moving his two astroturf orgs under one umbrella astroturf org, now called Everytown for Gun Safety.  Just think if the NRA had to constantly change it's name, how much it could get done.
