There's this new movie out, and people are so excited I thought maybe it was something new in the world of cinema. Turns out it's just another installment of some comic book property.

I'd watch that! I've not watched the HBO series, and in fact all I know about it is it's on HBO. That, and BSL id'd the evil queen for me last week when I didn't understand a joke. (thanks, Liz)

I've been doing everything I can to avoid spoilers for this season of GoT. I'm waiting till I finally get around to buying a TV so I can watch it on a big screen.

There's plenty of ~~virtue-signaling~~ taste-signaling on APS. I'll be sure and point that out the next time we're all grousing about the state of pop music, or claiming that Will Ferrell is a no-talent hack.

I wouldn't complain if this ENDGAME: THE FILM EVENT OF THE MILLENNIUM! stuff didn't come up when I try to listen to a political podcast. And again when I sign on to APS. And again, when the WaPo bloatware on the new e-reader pops up. It was getting exhausting. Thanks for helping me vent.

No one's answered the implied question, though. Why all the hype? After 30 years of comic book block-busters, what's new here?

I think it’s about most all of the straight white male superheroes being finished, opening opportunities for lgbt 🏳️‍🌈 etc, women and minorities to dominate the super person universe.

Sorta. There's still the MCU phase 4. There's like 4 or 5 marvel movies already confirmed or filmed.

It is a big deal because it's it for a lot of these characters. If you enjoyed the Avengers Arc, and a lot of people did, then this is it. It's the final payoff on several pretty long Hero's Journeys. Stories mean things to the people that enjoy them. They have since Gilgamesh. Folks that are invested in the story want a satisfying end to it.

I tried reading GoT once, it was such a rediculous word salad, that I gave up after 20 pages, that gave me zedo interest in watching the series.
