The intellectuals of the left have been unable to abandon their totalitarian/collectivist ideology, even after communism and national socialism proved to be crushing failures in the 20th century.

They doubtless want me to think they're intellectuals. I say they're nasty, small-minded bullies who deserve to have their tax dollars taken away.

They are not "intellectuals." Real intellectuals cannot be reality-averse.

The Zardoz screenplay was actually a long-lost manuscript of a Marx & Engles collaboration showing the true culmination of marxist ideology.
