Own Land - CHEAP!
« on: January 30, 2008, 09:10:19 AM »
Had to show this to you guys and gals.  Dad and I have a couple of lots that are old railroad right-of-way.  We have no use for them but someone might.  I'm doing a test run on e-bay to see if there's any interest.

As much as the "Buy It Quick" marketing model appalls me it seem that's what gets people to look, so that's how it's set up.  I cringe every time I look at it but, judging by the other auctions on e-bay, that's what works.  I used a couple of them as models to set up the auction.  Ick.  Here it is in all it's infomercialistic glory...

I feel like I need a shower now...  undecided

I'm not an Us resident otherwise I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
How many squaremeters would 0.16 acres be ?
I'll go and have a look at Wikipedia.
500 bucks for a piece of land, I have never thought that
this was possible....

"The United States survey acre is approximately 4046.873 square meters;"

So that would be 4046.873 / 100 x 16 ?

= 647.50 m2 / 499 = $ 1.30 for a square meter .

Your calcs are correct.

0.16 acre = 0.064752 hectare = 647.52 sq meter

I put it as US residents only to keep the proxy bidder and send-you-an-overseas-certified-check rifraff at bay.  If you want it, and if US law allows, by all means take a stab at it.  I wouldn't have any problem with a fellow APS'er getting it, regardless of where they live.  Just understand it's chunk of old railroad right of way in a little town that's in the middle of nowhere.

I have 60 more if you want them.

what is the annual taxes and can it pretty much sit vacent for years, like no mowing or trash pickup? I imagine it probably would become a dumpsite with no one around.

I don't have my file with me, but if memory serves the taxes are a whopping ten bucks a year.

Can someone put a mobile home on it? How many trans-camaros do you think will fit after you do that?

If I buy it cheap I don't want to have to go down once a month to mow, remove all the trash and/or remove squatters.

It hasn't been mowed in fifty years.  Why start now?  That would just screw up the look and make people wonder about you.. Cheesy

None.  All the Transmaros are still nice enough to be drivers. Besides, there won't be any room because of your collection of old trucks and junk school buses.  Where do you think the engines for the Transmaro aregoing to come from. Smiley

$3,125 per acre Huh?

That's pretty expensive land by my standards.

My land was only $2,750 per acre 5 years ago, and it came with a nice house on it Smiley

City lot prices and land-by-the-acre prices are two different critters.

If you want land there is a ranch for sale in the county for a mere $1000 an acre.  All 3800 of them.  I sure wouldn't mind helping someone buy that!

If the price was $3,125 per acre for Ag land here in Iowa, it would be sold faster than the ink could dry. The sad part is you couldn't turn the note in 30 years on the crop production profits.

The first land I bought I paid $375 an acre. It was tucked in against the base of a mountain in Central Pennsylvania surrounded by farms. Couldn't farm it, which is why it was so cheap. I was going to build a hunting cabin on it. Never got around to it, and ended up selling it for $400 an acre to a guy who did put a cabin on it.

It took the Seller a while to formulate and equally snarky reply.   Besides, you have a neggie on your account so I can't trust you now, can I?  laugh

It was $499.00.  As of this morning it was still showing up.  I just looked and it's gone.  I can't figure out why other than the BIN feature is time-limited.  They got their fee so I guess they are satisfied.  I'll still honor the BIN price if anyone wants to pay it.  I put a note at the bottom of the auction to that effect.

If you don't set a reserve, BIN disappears with the first bid. If you do set a reserve, BIN lasts until the reserve is met or the auction ends.

Well, you may notice that my neggie came from someone who is no longer in bidness... They showed a picture of a nice amplifier, and sent me something that looked like it went down a flight of stairs, didn't answer their e-mail, etc., etc., and when I negged them, they negged me back.

The amp is currently over at a friend's place. He discovered that the problem was in the bridging switch when he wiggled it. While holding the leads in his mouth. It's a 130 wpc old school high current solid state Hafler amp. Heh, heh... I _wish_ I had that on video... He was thinking it'd be like a "radio."

Gotcha.  Thanks for the heads-up.  Stupid rule, but I guess as long as it's their name on the sign I have to play by it.

I'd have almost given you one of the lots just to see that on video!

I saw the seller you neggied you had a BUNCH of negs on his.  He had like 23k ratings!  Jeez that's a boatload of auctions.
