The Gores gave up the mansion to move to a houseboat?  A nice *small* houseboat?  That's pretty green.  I guess we can give them a pass on one luxury...

But I'm guessing they haven't ezackly given up the other house yet.

I just wanna see how he explains it away. All the hard core environmentalists I know absolutely, positively, with every fiber of their being, loathe jet skis. How can he hang out with enviros and not know that?

Nothing as far as I'm concerned, but environmentalists look at them as noisy animal harassers and killers. They're banned in I'm pretty sure all National Parks that have a marine component to them.

Don't ask me what the difference is between a jet ski and a 10' RHIB with a 50 on the back.

The same is true of Dirt Bikes, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Some of the enviros literally start ranting, raving, and raise their voices at the mere thought of them.

I have a 03 sea doo gtx, with a 1495 cc super charged 4 stroke engine making 185 hp . Yet It is 5 star emission compliant or something along those lines.
So it could be green.
But it holds 18  gallons of gas, more than some cars.

What's wrong with jet skis?

Seems pretty obvious why greenistinians wouldn't like them.  They are recreational vehicles that consume fossil fuels, and emit hydrocarbons, just for fun.  Now that I think about it, I want one.

How much gas can a jet ski possible use?  It's not like they're 4 ton V8-powered SUVs or anything.

No, that's the houseboat they have on the swimming pool at the mansion.

Powered pleasure watercraft are some of the most fuel ineffeciant machines on the planet.  The last time I rode Jetski's with any regularity I could get about 3.5-4 hours fun out of the 15 gal tank.  It was a smaller two stroke though.  Boats measure fuel consumption in gallons/hour.  Never mind the ski, I'll bet that houseboat burns 5-10 gal/hr of diesel just to putt around.  Marine diesel isin't the low sulfer stuff either.

He probably tries to justify it by buying carbon credits.

It's not just the gas - it's the noise, and the disruption of the fragile surface tension of lakewater!

Wow!  I didn't realize I was supposed to be concerned with fragile surface tension.  You guys get way better newsletters than I do.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Just more proof that rich environmentalists want you to have to live in hardship to save the planet.  Of course they wouldn't have to do those things.  They're rich.

That seems realistic to me. The article says 2gal / hr. That must be at like 0.005 knots. And I still can't figure out the math on the below quote from the article:

Quote
With a 500 gallon capacity Austin says Gore wont need a refill for two or three years though he admits having no clue about where Gore could get bio-diesel at the lake.

Jetskis are fun and have a motor.  That is enough for the neo-puritan/greenies to despise them.

How could that little jet ski support Gore? grin
