Filmmaker and VFX master Douglas Trumbull has passed away.
https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/020822-1500
His passing may go unnoted to most, but to those of us who live for behind-the-scenes clips and SFX featurettes, Trumbull is a genuine legend. He pioneered many of the in-camera SFX and graphics techniques used in modern moviemaking. Pretty much any sci fi movie from the late 70's to the early 2000's felt the touch of his hand. Star Trek TMP, Close Encounters, Blade Runner, et al.
RIP
Brad

And he did a good job directing 'Silent Running', too. But he was a special effects genius.

An outstanding special effects guy. He pretty much set the sfx standard starting in the 70's. He will be missed.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale. Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Good for Millcreek for remembering "Silent Running" ! That was the first time I remember hearing Trumbull's name.
