Are these as dumb as I think they are?
« on: March 03, 2005, 10:18:52 PM »
A friend of mine received these as a birthday present.  They are covered in some leatherish, basketweave stuff.  Is it just me, or are those awful?   undecided  In case you can't tell, they spell "LORD."  Why anyone wants bookends that say "LORD" is beyond me, especially when they will have books between them.

That's yard sale stuff if I've ever seen it. They have to be made in China.

Yes.  Send a link to Chris Roseborough at A Little Leaven for his "museum of idolatry".  He collects (among other things) Christian kitsch.

Hmmm...  Might not be bad if given a fresh coat of glossy black paint, then used to hold his copies of The Necronomicon, Mein Kampf & Windows Vista Inside Out.

Yup.

Lee, you would have loved the clock we received as a wedding gift.  One of those really dramatic prints of Christ on the cross, but with a clock in the corner.  The kicker?  Flashing LEDs surrounding our Lord.

I have a nun in the family that would use those to hold her multiple copies of the bible.

Ya know, I'm glad my Japanese inlaws believe in practical gifts, like a rice cooker, vacuum cleaner, and a case of Kirin Lager  grin.

That, and I'm glad at Japanese wedding ceremonies (like my wife and I had), the guests bring money rather than stuff that didn't pass muster at their last yard sale.

This is APS, not DU. We're familiar with the word. Smiley

Another wedding gift we got was a vase, some Southwesterny thing from Mikasa.  It was pretty ugly, unless you squinted real hard.  Then it just looked like a skull.

It was the first thing that sold at our yard sale.   cheesy

I sometimes wonder, when those poor Chinese make crap like this for ten cents per hour, what they must think of us and our insatiable desire for useless junk. Huh?

Almost. At least they seem to work well as bookends. As long as they do that they won't be entirely useless.

Actually, I think they belong to A Rd's brother, Lo Rd, who plays in the minors.

Me too.  Viewed from the perspective of a Chinese assembly line worker, Americans have to be some of the screwiest, stupidest, wierdest people on the planet.  It'd make me wonder how such a bunch of idiots managed to become the world's lone superpower.

It goes to the fact you cannot defend against US Doctrine because we do not follow it.
