The everlasting question...
« on: July 14, 2005, 04:52:38 PM »
Especially for you gardeners:

How can Starvation and Zucchini coexist on the same planet?

(A special thanks to my late friend Vince for this question.  His wife was the gardener, not he.  He would ask her; "Why don't you plant, maybe strawberries, instead of zucchini?")

Simple:  No one likes to eat Zucchini.

I didn't think that zucchini was particularly nutritious.

I like zucchini.  Sauteed, fried, etc.  My wife makes a great zucchini bread with it.

Ahhhhhhhh...
Zucchini - the only summer squash that's edible. Raw, fried, sauteed, in soups or in salads - matters not. Um-Um Gooooooood!

How?  Because you have not learned to properly grill it!

Mmmm, grilled veggies, Hoosier delight.

Try growing some.  You'll get it right quick.  If you don't pick it every day, you'll end up with zucchini baseball bats.

Larry,

I think folks get totally bummed about a food when there is an over-abundance of it.  Zucchini is one such veggie.

Now what I want to come up with is a way to make Booze and Cigarettes out of such abundances of Zucchini.

No matter how hard times may be, folks will always find the monies for Booze , Tobacco, and Sex. History proves this.

Figure out how to convert Zucchini into Booze and "Tobacco" , and one can make money and not be overridden by the Zucchini , and not get burned out with it.

I tried zucchini once. I'd just as soon eat lawn clippings.

Sir, you have apparently not tried fried zucchini!  Take something totally healthful, bread it and fry it in grease.  Heaven!

'Scuse me, I just picked zucchini the size of a baseball bat, I need to find a use for it.

Oh, and in case anybody was wondering, the garden is doing great.  Tomatoes will be ready soon, pumpkins are already 6" in diameter, black-eyed peas are making, and the pickles have been picked twice already.  The green beans keep flowering, but no beans yet.

Grilled zucchini is actually one of the more edible vegetable dishes.  Hell, you can bake it, boil it, deep fry it, stir fry it, probably even smoke it and it's pretty tasty.  They're not particularly good eaten raw.

Larry - Zucchini fan here!!!  Funny stuff - folks love it or hate it!

My fave - slice thin and dip in olive oil seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic, then dust with flour ......... place in skillet with oil real hot and toss around a bit.

Once not too hot to touch - EAT and enjoy - yummee.

Bonnie makes great Zucchini bread too - that is great, so moist and yummee.

That's why I'm organizing ZukeAid '05, a massive airlift of zucchini to the underfed of Africa.

Yes, I have. I dearly love battered and fried foods, including mushrooms, miniature corn, tofu, banana slices, meat, onions, et cetera. No broccoli for me, nor any cauliflower, nor zucchini.

No need to go through all that trouble.  A handful of seed, with directions to add dirt and water, will suffice.

I've already picked enough green beans for a meal.  I'll probably get enough for another meal this weekend.

I'm growing Blue Lake beans in three earthboxes this year.  Normally, I grow a variety of vegetables, but I didn't feel like dealing with the hassle this year.
