Union activity led by the college-educated
« on: April 28, 2022, 09:08:54 AM »
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/28/business/college-workers-starbucks-amazon-unions.html

Starbucks, REI and Amazon, all headquartered in Seattle, have historically not been too keen on their workers unionizing, so it will be interesting to see where this leads.

At the biggest locally owned coffee shop chain in town  they're doing the same thing.
The company is flaming liberal but what's coming out from the employees is they're basically a sweatshop.
Now knowing many yutes nowadays it could be as simple as requiring them to coming to work on time setting them off.

All left wing corporate crap holes should be unionized.  They richly deserve it.

My thoughts exactly.

It's just incredibly fascinating to watch the left speak from some of these companies and their founders... they're enthusiastic lefties when they're throwing around every one else's money, but once workers start demanding some of their money, the turn into 1880s robber baron capitalists.

Saw a story where someone was calling for a $30 min wage.

From the linked article . . .

"bachelor’s and grasp’s levels in schooling"
"affiliate diploma in laptop science"
"bachelor’s in music schooling and a grasp’s in opera efficiency"
"Ph.D. in public coverage"

College-educated my patootie. With academic achievements like these, it's no wonder many of these folks are stuck in food service or package delivery - it's almost as if they deliberately sought to avoid acquiring any marketable skills. (What are "grasp's" degrees? Correspondence school or online learning?)
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

This is why I said the useless people. Because they are.

Saw a story where someone was calling for a $30 min wage.

I saw that the other day as well.

These people are such idiots. You know what, if NYC or San Francisco wants a $30 minimum wage to help workers pay the $2000/mo rents there, good for them and it can even make sense. However they totally ignore a majority of the country when they want to "nationalize" this crap. I'm pretty sure that the family that owns the local diner here makes around $15-$20/hr making meals that cost under $10, but they are supposed to pay their workers $30?

These "livable wages" are how you destroy the small businesses the liberals want to embrace, and grow corporate businesses like McD's and big box stores that people in smaller towns have to drive to, because all the local mom and pop places went out of business.

That is what I was thinking.  Those work places might actually be sweatshops (I hate to assume that) as most leftists do not practice what they preach.

When I saw this thread title, I was thinking it would be about big unions being run by college educated people who have never worked with their hands.

$30 an hour? WTF, man! That's barely a livable wage! Who can afford their Soho loft and multiple Mocha Chai Lattes a day on just $62 *expletive deleted*ing thousand a year?

You rich bastards thing we're animals living in filth!

I was wearing my "Make Christmas Great Again" hat when I went into my local REI to spend $200ish on some new boots.

I got ignored by the help.

I went somewhere else.

It wasn't the hat.  REI ignores everyone, unless you have the exact right tree hugger look.

That's not even a joke. I went to REI occasionally, but regularly decades ago. Then I didn't go for a long time. Then maybe 5-6 years ago, I went back.

During my earlier visits, I noticed no difference from any other store, and I certainly didn't wear Birkenstocks and a Sierra Club t-shirt when I went. Employees were at least as friendly as in any other store.

During the latest few visits, I absolutely saw a difference in the employees. I normally wear jeans and a t-shirt, so no advertising of my politics. They were not as friendly to me, and you might say unfriendly, compared to how they treated the skinny people in the convertible hiking pants and stuff. I was actually turned off by the "new" REI environment and quit going.
