Hymn to Nikkal
« on: August 21, 2022, 08:28:34 AM »
I was just reading about the band Heilung's latest album release (it's awesome!) and they talked about the song Hymn to Nikkal, which is apparently the oldest known song with written annotated music. It sent me down a rabbit hole of things like the Hurrian language, which I'd never heard of and in which the song is written. It also led to really cool youtube recommendations for similar songs.

There are apparently many ways to interpret the annotated music, but here's how Heilung did it:

This is a more "historically correct" version:

Sounds like Dead Can Dance.  They did a few "lost to history" pieces.
