Found this while reading an article on the meat festival in China:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3105826/Wedding-Crashers-star-Vince-Vaughn-says-guns-allowed-schools-barring-like-banning-forks-stop-making-people-fat.html
TL;DR: Vince Vaughn is pro-gun and not in the "I support hunting" way.

Chinese meat festival? I must have missed that one.

You didn't miss much, it was a "zomg!" piece about how they treat dogs and cats intended for human consumption at this meat festival.

Are the cats and dogs 'free-ranging' and 'organic' or are they raised tightly packed in warehouses like Tyson chickens?

Vaughan's libertarianism is well-known. There's a particular scene in one of his films, in which he grabs a nightstand gun, before going to investigate a bump in the night. (His character isn't police, military, criminal, or even wing-nut.)

I'm not a fan, so I was unaware. That's why it surprised me so.

I had no idea you were so out of touch.

Let's stipulate that some of the beasts were "household pets" in spite of http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2014/10/05/the_new_threat_to_chinese_harmony_pet_dogs.html .
I don't see anybody claiming that folks were breaking into yards, or doing home invasions or street muggings, to get the pets that wound up on the fire. If folks are going to have a pet they need to care for it and I suspect those animals were not confined to yards.
It's good that folks are concerned about sanitation and basic health of the animals being transported/slaughtered/served but this seems to be case of cultures clashing and outsiders muscling in on an essentially internal culture issue.
Full disclosure: never had dog in China; did have cat. Had dog in Korea. Approached it much like sausage - don't look at anything but the finished product.
stay safe.
