Peoples' minds are funny things
« on: July 15, 2010, 01:21:59 PM »
Especially when it comes to image recognition.

My brother was driving around the other day and says he saw someone with the Imperial logo from Star Wars on the back window as a decal.

Kinda like this:

He then pointed out another one to me as we were driving around.  I saw this one, and it was this:

Amazing what a combination of benign ignorance coupled with fixation on sci-fi video games will do to the ability to recognize an object.  I bet the first one was an arfcom sticker, too.  I see lots of 'em driving around here in AZ.  Not too many Imperial Palpatine sympathizers, though. =D

Actually, the Galactic Empire logo is somewhat common as a decal, around here; that could certainly be what your brother saw.

Item one reminds me of a stepping motor.  Item two reminds me of an automotive alternator.

Peoples' minds are funny things frequently misused, if used at all.

Was the vehicle a SithUV?

I'm stumped--what's the second logo?

You don't recognize the AR-15 bolt profile?

It's a stylized rendering of an AR-15 bolt face, and I didn't recognize it, either.  I haven't seen an actual AR-15 bolt in years, and I don't think about them much.

Not too many Imperial Palpatine sympathizers, though.

Not that they'll admit.

A fondness for overengineered plastic stuff that fails when it's needed most, just like stormtrooper armor.
High capacity in an attempt to compensate for a lack of marksmanship, just like stormtroopers.
Lots of goofy gadgets that are unlikely to ever be useful, like a stormtrooper utility belt.

Sounds pretty Imperial to me.

Not in the best taste, probably not work-safe.
But funny.

Except when real Soldiers and Marines use all those plastic gadgets, we tend to whoop everyone's ass, and twice on Sundays.  Very un-Imperial.
