I thought you might like this website. You put in a song or artist that you like and the site creates a "radio station" of similar music. I now have about 10 new cds that I have to buy. Hope you enjoy.

That is so much better than crack.

Crack is going to be an easier habit to shift too.

It's good for rock of various sorts, in my experience it's a bit brain-dead where country is concerned.

With rock, you can select a band that's fairly unusual, say...Joe Satriani, and it'll do a pretty good job of finding similar.

But it thinks Charlie Daniels and Steve Earle are similar to various crooning Nashville idiots.  No sense of how they're different from the norm.

I think part of their mission is to introduce listeners to OTHER new music they may like, based on your stated preferences, thus making it a business model that the record companies will support.  Not sure how much of that is 'fishing' for record purchasers and how much is to give you an enjoyable listening experience.

Spot-on:
>Smooth jazz (enter Norman Brown and you get offerings from Boney James, Everette Harp, Rippingtons, et al)
>Reggae, (enter Black Uhuru and you get Inner Circle, Burning Spear, Julian Marley, UB40)
>Funk (Parliament gets you Gap Band, ConFunkShun, Rick James, Bootsy Collins and even the Bertha Butt Boogie by the Jimmy Castor Bunch!)

There are DEFINITELY some serious problems with the country genre, bunch of old Buck Owens-type dregs.
My Hendrix channel is also a little convoluted, too.  Strange, incongruous stuff offered.  Guess I need to keep rating stuff.

I AM getting a whole new appreciation for Stevie Ray, though.  The guy just had the juice.

...has left the building.

Felonius Fig, I agree that there are some issues with the music choices. I have a station set up for The Fields of the Nephilim, which is an 80's Goth band and Pandora tried to play a ZZ Top song! Still I have heard a lot of new music that I enjoy. Also, I think their catalog is limited in some areas as after listening for a while songs can begin to repeat. Although, it is the best kind of music, free.

Very cool.
Here's a similar website:  http://www.liveplasma.com/
This one doesn't play the songs for you...but it does show you a BUNCH of related artists.
It's a bit odd sometimes though.

Heads up --
I sent them a nice, complimentary email with some new artist suggestions and a couple of ways to restructure Reggae specifically to include subgenres of dancehall, ska, roots and dub.

They replied with a nice email and an offer of a T-shirt or Hat (my choice).

Might wanna do the same, in your preferred music area.

Pretty cool, but like everyone says, it's a bit limited... I started out with Firewater, but it chose a cover as an example of their sound. A Beatles cover. I hate the ******* Beatles!

Ditto.
I punched in Bob Seger and it played a bunch of good tunes for me!
And best of all:  All these songs don't take up my HD space.

By the way, what kind of shirt did they offer you? Grin

Has anyone been a free user long enough to get the "ramped up" advertising they promise?

Listening to Chuck Berry's "London Berry Blues" right now... Cheesy

Not sure. I get a vertical 3" by 1" pane in the window that changes every few seconds.
Funky Flashback as I listen to the Brother's Johnson "Get the Funk Out Ma Face", Ohio Players' "Fire" and the Commodore's "Brick House".

Where's my 4" platform shoes and my elephant bellbottoms?  Cheesy
...and yes, in the mid to late '70's, we white guys listened to stanky chocolate funk.

I have another channel I named Hendrix for obvious reasons.  It just gave me SRV doing VooDoo Chile (slight return) and I was pretty excited.  Segue'd into Rick Derringer's RockNRoll Hoochie Koo.

Oh, lord.  I'm 'bout to get my Flying V out...

Digging up old threads.

I am starting to dislike Pandora.  There are people/bands that I have devoted myself to hating.  I probably made these decisions several years ago (5-10).  They are still making music and finding their way into my playlist.  Either the style has changed or my tastes have changed.

Yep, Pandora is cool.
I stopped using it when I put in Blackfoot and it'd give me crappy emo music.
Oh well.
Edit:  Wait a tic, this thread is 30 years old!
Had a total "WTF" moment reading that old post of mine I don't remember posting a minute ago. Cheesy
