Gun Sales
« on: February 23, 2022, 07:57:30 AM »
Gun sales seem to still be going strong. It looks like the ginormous spike after Brandon was elected has dropped down, but we still have overall growth in sales.

A shocking statistic was that in Hawaii, there were only 33 recorded sales, and that was an increase. Yikes. At one point, one of my retirement options was a bungalow on an acre at elevation on the Big Island, but Hawaii is full blown socialist now.

I'm hoping to add to that surge in a few days.

I really want to get a Ruger Security 9, but I'm holding off to figure out how much my raise is going to be. I should know that in a couple of days.

My oldest daughter is really getting interested in trying deer hunting, so I'm probably going to be buying a youth deer rifle sometime soon.

Remember folks, Suppressors count as "firearms".  Add to the numbers while being considerate to those around you.   =D

2021 was actually a slow year for me.  I only bought one.

Okay, I'm wondering if those Hawaii numbers are wrong. I know that it's an incredible pain in the ass to buy a gun there, but a quick search indicates there are still a good number of gun shops on the islands. Maybe they're making most of their money off their onsite shooting ranges and gun rentals, but given the number of shops, 33 just seems wrong.

Yeah, I left a spare set of prints at my LGS the last time I bought a can. I don't know if prints expire, but that's gonna be my excuse for getting another can soon.  =D

the 33 has got to be wrong.  The article said that they were going by NICS checks to estimate sale, and Hawaii had 17 thousand and change in 2021

https://www.fbi.gov/file-repository/nics_firearm_checks_-_month_year_by_state.pdf

Although something crazy is going on in Illinois as well.  Are they running every FOID holder annually or something?

My perfered SOT bought one of the electronic fingerprinting machines to e-file.  That's already cost me a grand and He's only had it 2 weeks.

I thought I heard Illinois or one of those states was doing FOID checks monthly.

A big chunk of the background check numbers are automatic state checks from everything I have heard.  People just figure a lot of sales don't require background checks so it probably averages out.  I don't know how often Texas checks my status since I have a license to carry, but I bet I buy more guns than they do checks.

I don't know why mine hasn't done that yet. From what I can see, they are the biggest can seller in the region. Seems like it would benefit them. The state popo fingerprint office is super friendly, but "one stop" would be nice for me, if not my bank account.  =D

Something like that.  They're hot to confiscate FOID cards from those that are suddenly ineligible.

The NRA can't run their gun trucks to Hawaii. Last I heard they were going to buy snorkels for the trucks but the money budgeted got diverted to a new suit for WLaP.

I hear there are disposable submarines available that are made in South America.

If you're interested, the Hawaiian site is

https://2ahawaii.com/

I'm still on there (as 230RN) but haven't posted in a while.  I frankly got discouraged, not by the fervor of the shooters, but the overwhelming culture of submissive citizenship of the general population. It was even worse than a New Yorkers' submissive attitude toward government.

That cultural effect came through in a lot of the online traffic.  I had a translation done of the BOR from Hawaiian and the Second Amendment one read  "...the right of the people (militia) to bear arms, shall not be infringed."

The repetition of the word "(militia)" kind of annoyed me, as if they wanted to emphasize that "Hey, unless you were in some kind of military, you can't have guns."

Anyhow, they've got some of the same problems we have, as well as their own types of problems due to the bowed-head syndrome and I don't blame Ben for second-guessing his thinking about moving there.

Don't know about the validity of the gun sales statistics from there one way or the other.

Bill Wilson just did a video last night, and he's predicting only about 10% of the recent, first-time buyers will really add to the market of those buying guns and ammo in the future. He thinks most will just keep their new gun, and half-box of ammo sitting around, just in case. I wouldn't be surprised if that comes true.

Just re-read this: "The NRA can't run their gun trucks to Hawaii."

It reminded me of the amusing fact that Hawaii has several actual Interstate Highways.

No kiddin'.

Technically, Hawaii's "interstates" are defense highways and were built under the auspices of the Federal Highway Act of 1956.

Today the system is officially known as the Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways

Alaska and Puerto Rico also have "interstates."

Sounds about right.  Still a big shift if that many people changed their thinking a little even if not rabid pro-gun.

My normal dealer told me a couple years ago that the Silencer Shop kiosk cost $5K or more.  However, they said they were going to get one last month.  I assume the new electronic submittal the ATF is doing pushed them into it.  That and the last 2 years were pretty good for them.

Sure. And now they have skin in the game when gun control measures are proposed.
