Someone put quite a bit of work into this:

Wow, that is pretty impressive.

So if I relocate to flyoverland west of the Mississippi, where there are no jobs to be had, I stand the best chance of not losing a job I could not get?
Lies, damn lies, and statistics. Choose yer choice.
stay safe.

So basically, things got bad - and have continued to worsen - since right about the time Democrats took control of Congress?

That's about right. =|
Also, a large segment of rural counties are self-employed ranchers and farmers. They don't run out of work until the bank comes and takes the farm.

:O
So... there's never any work in Alaska?
Very interesting map. Thanks for posting it.

Is it just me or does it look like the areas that are more heavily Democrat are the worst hit?

It's just you.
-
Looks to be more like areas with higher population density got hit the worst. Notable exception: Northern Virginia. ???

Wow, that is pretty impressive.
impressive? i was thinking depressing.
this has been foreseeable for some time. i can remember thinking in 03 or 04 that we were in trouble, as i saw bush lowering interest rates at a time of geared for war production. time to realize whether we are dems, reps, or otherwise, we are in for some bad juju. pointing fingers isn't gonna fix it.

Interesting you say pointing fingers isn't going to fix it. I disagree. Identifying what set of ideas is more harmful to the country and what set of values is more helpful is the first set. Liberalism and big government make things worse. Helping the nation see that fact, so we can move away from it to heal is key. Until people see that the politicians they put in office in 08 are the farthest thing from a solution we can have, there won't be any fixing of anything.

Well, that certainly applies to the "rez" counties in Montana =|

The decline, according to the map in the OP, begins months before January 2009.

Democrats had power prior to January '09. Just because Bush was in the White House does not mean the Democrats have no responsibility.

Kinda sorta. Directly preportional to population density. How many big cities do you know of that don't lean dem?
-
in other words, the crime rate will soar. and then the push for gun bans will start.
-
funny how we always blame the gov't when we are the ones who elect them.
cry your pity poo about how it wasn't you!

So, aside from this thread being a whole lot of obvious, I think that this conclusion is, while not at all implausible, an exemplary bit of tinfoilhattery.

The graphic representation of blight is interesting, though. =)

that's not even all the last weeks. :-X and do recall i said "and then the push for gun bans will start." not and then they'll ban every gun there is.

Exactly! (I missed your post, somehow, my bad)
-
Look at how parts of Alaska got better.
-
And anyone notice the timeline?
January 2009 was when the major shift really started to happen, what a co-inky-dink, right when Obama took office.
But it's all Bush's fault.

You're new aren't you? This is teh obvious. Cheney set it all up to happen that way so the new guys would look bad. =D
