Sure is quiet 'round these parts!

Is it just me or has APS suddenly become a lot more quiet the last couple of weeks?

Wipes blood off blacksnake whip, coils it, hangs it on wall, brushes human debris from shoes, looks at "To Do" list with all names crossed off and throws it in the trashcan.

I can't imagine why . . .

Too quiet.

I think moderation in all things is a good motto.

'Prolly part Preacherman and part Holidays.
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.

Too quiet.

I propose we give amnesty to all Mexicans here illegally and make them earn their keep by executing convicted drug dealers.  This would only apply to Mexicans married one-husband one-wife style because homosexuality is a perversion. grin

I've noticed a few cantankerous people (c_yeager, lumpy, and a few others) haven't been around lately.  Is their absence by choice or by force?

We're rapidly reaching a point where we've argued every major subject worth arguing, and there isn't much point in repeating it again.  Perhaps this is progress.  Tongue

Oddly, I find myself coming back compulsively and reading several times a day.  Mostly in lurk mode as a guest and then sign in to make a comment or two in the evening.

In part, it's the holidays. Traffic on forums is down overall.

Plus, it would seem that we've exhausted all of the scrumptious food stories, at least until Christmas Day.

Which reminds me: I have to go searching for the best turducken I can find. It's not for Christmas, it's for my birthday. Any suggestions?

Wife just informed me that she does not want to eat turducken. She's not a big fan of turkey and, while she likes chicken, she hates duck. (Her late father used to take live ducks into the basement and cut their throats to make czarninia--Polish duck blood soup).

There's no way I can eat a 15 or even 10 pound piece of turkey/duck/chicken/dressing by myself. Even over the course of a week.

And there's nobody else in my family who likes food that's even remotely spicey. And I was thinking turducken stuffed with andouille and other Cajun ingredients. Sad

The Cajun restaurants around here seem to think that shrimp etoufee is some boiled shrimp in tomato soup, poured over rice. Not Cajun enough for you? Just add some cayenne pepper. And a lot more salt.

The pseudo-Cajun "chefs" we have here should be flipping burgers at McDonalds.

Meanwhile, I'm dying to know what real turducken tastes like. I've been wanting to make this for years, but, well, I'm the only one who wants it.

Sigh....

Personally, the board's gotten too political lately, and I just haven't been in the mood for any arguments.  Questions and stories have been popping off the front page in just a day or two, but anything about cops or muslims is destined to remain above the fold for a good week.  If a muslim cop killed an abortionist it'd probably get to a few hundred pages.

I guess there is only so much that one group can talk about, now that the post-election paranoia is going out of vogue.

I've found I don't spend as much time here as I once did.

Something has changed about APS, to me at least... more personal attacks, people getting upset and taking issue over the smallest things, the crackdown on language, the issuance of posting rules otherwise.  I guess it all goes together.

This place used to be so laid back.  People did have disagreements and such, but everything stayed civil.

Then, over the last couple of months things just went down the tube.  Seems like everyone's grouchy.

I just don't get it...

I can't speak for anyone else, but I agree with the following being reasons for dead air...
1. The recent grouchiness & spats were a definite turn off.
2. The holidays,
3. Slow news & topics season.
Perhaps this is just the calm before the storm.

It seems our pagans have all but disappeared.  Broken Paw chimes in from time to time, and RevDisk is even less talkative.  Hunter Rose just fell off the map altogether.  Of course, I think we have others still active.

I've noticed a few cantankerous people (c_yeager, lumpy, and a few others) haven't been around lately.  Is their absence by choice or by force?
c_yeager sent me a PM 2 or 3 weeks ago, saying we were both being jerks, but that he was man enough to recognize it and leave the forum, or something to that effect.  That was odd to me, considering that I had apologized to him for a recent misunderstanding, and even defended him somewhat from The Evil Thompson Gunner.  I take it he banned himself.  I think we both received the same PM from Preach, saying, "You're being a pain, shut up."

Lumpy's appearance and disappearance were very closely timed with the election.  He also PM'ed me and mentioned that folks were being mean to him.  Can't imagine why he thought that.   smiley

I think a number of folks got fed up with the "grouchiness and spats", and have stopped visiting.  I hope they'll be back now that we seem to have that problem under control.

I haven't banned anyone lately . . . Oleg and I really don't want to do that on APS unless it's absolutely necessary.  We'd rather have an open forum where members are genuinely self-policing.  We've banned relatively few members over the life of this board, and I hope we'll be able to continue in that vein.  Only those who won't take a hint, and learn from the reactions of others, end up being deep-sixed.

Don't worry about a temporary quietness.  All forums go through it from time to time.  Things'll pick up again.
