I think non-kosher stuff is ok with Jews if it is necessary to save a life.

It'll be really interesting to see how long he lasts.
My money is on him ultimately undergoing some sort of rejection in spite of every effort to suppress the rejection mechanisms typically present.
This story made me recall another one in Eastern Europe or Russia where a doctor was preparing to perform a head transplant onto a donor human body. Evidently that operation never happened, the patient backed out of the procedure.
