I would say your way of thinking strongly affects how you react to stimuli.  That doesn't mean you are born that way.

So what about the old adage about "If a man isn't a socialist by the time he is twenty, he has no heart.  And if he isn't a conservative by the time he's thirty, he has no brain?" (Or some such-like, give or take five years or so.)

Even if true, liberal and conservative at that time were not the same as today.  I still don't like it.  Not everyone was stupid at a young age or had parents that didn't teach them a little sense of reality.
