Are they talking about "Kansas City style" barbecue? I just assumed that name came from KC, MO.
Kansas has a style that most of the KC area uses. There are some in the KC area that used the St Louis style but for the most part in Kansas/Kansas City the sauce isn't put on the meat during the cooking process. It is left to the consumer to decide if they want sauce on their meat.
