On August 11, 2011, Private First Class Ruben Lopez, United States Army, was killed in action in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device detonated near the vehicle he was occupying.
PFC Lopez is from Colusa, California. Today, there was a Patriot Guard mission for PFC Lopez. I just got back from it. We stood a flag line at the memorial service, escorted PFC Lopez to his final resting place and stood another flag line at the graveside. I'm hot, tired, sad and hungry-also proud to honor PFC Lopez and his family...but this is not about me. What I'm feeling that is nothing compared to what PFC Lopez' loved ones, neighbors, friends and military compatriots are going through right now.
Folks have expressed curiosity about what the Patriot Guard does. The link below was provided Chaplain Dave, the Christian Motorcyclists Association chaplain for the local chapter. The video explains why the Patriot Guard started, particularly with regard to the so-called Westboro "Baptist" Church and their interference in military funerals. The point is made that the beliefs held by WBC are NOT in accordance with scripture...I think we know that.
_Please take a few minutes and look at the video...even if you never participate in a Patriot Guard mission. We need to remember to honor our miliitary folks...those serving and those fallen.

I am sending this one out because this video is well worth the time to watch. It's about the Patriot Guard and what they do. It also mantions the Westboro Baptist church and their hideous behavior at military funerals. I don't know if the Westboro Baptist Church actually considers themselves Christian; but I assure you, they are not. Their signs and propaganda are full of hate. They do not show love or compassion to anyone. They deserve our prayers for salvation and for a change of heart that Jesus can give them.
