I guess where I have a problem with the image is a comparison of numbers. That is, how many thousands of arrests are made daily or weekly, with little or no drama?
Per the LEOs that are moderators at TFL/THR, the SWAT stuff is generally uncommon, as compared to otherwise.
Sure, we hear about screwed up raids/assaults/whatever, but that's because the screwups are rather unusual--which is the whole deal with "news". If it bleeds, it leads, no matter who spills the blood.
Gotta remember that there are right at 300 million people in this country, for one thing. Even a small percentage of that as idiots, nutzoids and just plain BAD folks is a significant number.
To get away from local cops, though, and more toward such FedGroups as the DEA and BATFE, I'm less sanguine--because of the power of federal laws. However, the public hearings on Ruby Ridge and Waco seemed to have them re-thinking how BATFE does things. DEA is less into arrests than undercover work, nowadays. The FBI's focus seems to be more on terrorism than anything else, at the moment.
My observations through the decades about interactions with cops is that people talk their way into trouble, and then whine about it afterwards.
