I watched it, it's disturbing. What I found mind-blowing was at the end of the clip there was someone cowering that yelled "NO!" when the shooter pointed the gun at him. The shooter actually said "sorry" and moved on, then the clip ends. This is after many instances of putting rounds into people he'd already shot and were dying, possibly already dead. I can't imagine what would make the guy decide not to shoot this particular person.

Seem to recall something similar occurring at another shooting

I don't (my memory isn't great.) What are you referring to?

I seem to recall another shooting, maybe even more than one, where someone yelled at the shooter and the shooter let them be and moved on.
May have to do some googling if I don't recall where.

I think the guy on the floor was white. Hard to tell but his skin coloring on his hand and arm is fairly light. He was there to shoot blacks, the two white people may have been collateral.

Is it known for certain this was race motivated?  I've heard a lot of secondhand assertions of it but not seen any primary source material from the shooter (actual social media screeds and such).  Watching that video there's mostly just opportunism of targets, no selectivity other than the one guy cowering and the shooter says "sorry."  I saw something was stenciled in white on the AR fore-end but couldn't read it.

Not that there's a lot of cogent motivation or philosophical rigor behind mass shooters... from what I can tell most are passive-aggressives that get walked over for a long time until they just snap, and grab onto the first principle that resonates with their need to act out.

Watched it and the first thing that came to my mind is how I’d react to someone walking in shooting like that.  What would I do to protect myself or my loved ones.  Is my 10 shot P365 enough against a body armored madman with an AR?

It’s a brutal video and my heart goes out to those lost.  May we never be faced with something like but if we do, how will you respond?

I've not watched it yet.  (I don't intend to, but might change my mind)  Can you shoot him in the head before he shoots you?  One shot, two shots, who cares; but that's about all you get.  I think that's the question.  A 5 shot LCR or a P3AT is enough but only if you can make the shot.  Not sure that I can.  Depending on how close I was, I might try.

The people out in the parking lot didn’t have time to react.  They pretty much froze in place initially which gave him time to pick them off.  Those in the store had a little more time (seconds really) to find cover and possibly draw their weapon.  Then again, how many non shooters really know what gun fire sounds like other than thinking it’s fireworks.

A lot to learn (on peoples reaction, how you’d react) watching the video if you can stand watching the loss of life.

Shoot 'em in the crotch. Or hammer their plate and shoot 'em again. Sides tend to not be armored.

Just shoot 'em.

Most body armor only protects the chest area.  Aim between the sternum and the crotch.  Maybe the hips depending on what you can aim at.  They might not drop dead, but you will cause pain and mobility issues that might allow you or your family to get out of there.

Plus, most mass shooters stop when they get hurt or police show up.  Even if you just wound them, that might be enough they will stop and give up or kill themselves.

The muslims shooting up the mall in Africa (Kenya?) expressly didn't kill fellow muslims who professed their faith.

which is why I watch these videos - from what I've seen in these types of videos is that people freeze/deer in headlight at first/as attack starts .
in this and christchurch, i think some folks "played dead" and got shot .

news reports said initially the retired cop hit him, but i have doubts.

I had nightmares last night, the video is very grim
