I like the suggestion of a golf diesel instead.  Given that I mostly drive highway, it makes the most sense for me.

pffffffftt.  Diesels stink, they have no power, and the fuel is more expensive than gasoline.

They don't stink anymore, and no power?  Yeah, that's why they use them for semis,  to haul freight, and put them in tanks.

It is more expensive than gas, but diesel engines like those in the VW Golf actually do get 60mpg, unlike the Prius. So while it may cost you $0.50 more a gallon, you'll be using far less in the first place.

And they usually last longer.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
