Another vote for Michelob Amber. Smooth and not too hoppy, which is what turns me off a lot of the microbrew stuff. Plus, the flavor stays consistant, even down to room temp (though I still enjoy it chilled to almost-freezing).

Some of the specialty stuff is so hops-laden it verges on undrinkable, although the college students around here swill endless quantities of it with gusto and gladly plunk down $3-$5 per bottle for it.

Good beer should taste great 'warm' as you Americans put it. I prefer 'slightly colder than room temperature'. A multitude of beery sins can be hidden by serving ice cold.
+1, Iain!
There's not a single beer I DON'T prefer at right around 50-55 degrees.

You TASTE the beer at that point.
Part of the reason so many 'Murcans HATE the thought of beer at that temperature is because of how gaggilicious your typical Bud Miller Coors would be in that format.

'course, when I was 19, I wasn't really concerned about taste.
I was more concerned about getting paved.
Which leads me to start a new thread...

Sorry, but worst beer is a toss-up (pardon the pun) between Iron City and Hamms.

Hey I'm from Pittsburgh so I have 2 cases of "Arns"! Having a cheap beer is like drinking cheap liquor, you just have to be in the mood.

Hamms is an order of magnitude better than others.

I wish the brain cells I pickled with OB would regrow.

I know they won't, since the formaldehyde content in that stuff pretty much guaranteed the job.  But heck, I was in Korea, buying the club girls Juicees and all that jazz.  When in Rome...

Old Milwaukee and I just never got along, but I still buy it to soak bratwurst in.  Cheesy

My wife is a sales manager for a regional beer distributor.  In addition to the Miller/Coors lineup, she brings me all the Becks, Bitburger, St. Pauli Girl, Warsteiner, Guinness, Harp, Bass, Labatt's Blue, Foster's Lager, Yuengling, Samuel Adams, Carlsberg, Tetley's Ale, Rolling Rock, and all the rest listed here:

http://www.schenckco.com/Products.html

Needless to say, I'm never at a loss to try something different.

Gewehr,

My mother told me she had another son that she never revealed to us.  She says it was you!  We'll be over soon with brats, since you seem to have the other necessary accouterments.  Welcome into the family, brother.  I love you, man. shocked

The funny thing is, I don't drink that much.

I look in my office here, and there are 5 cases of Mike's Hard Lemonade and Hard Lime, just sitting there.

I've got a garage fridge just full of Yuengling, Bitburger, Warsteiner, Leinenkugel, Hamm's, Guinness, and Rolling Rock.

Granted, I've been off the feedbag for a few weeks, but I hardly make a dent in the inventory around here.

My 22 and 25 year old stepsons, however...  Wink

There are also drawbacks to being connected to a beverage distributor.  When Coors Aspen Edge came out, it was recommended I get a case or two, it was going really cheap.  I had part of one bottle, and I couldn't give away the rest of it, it was worse than Michelob Ultra.  Another bratwurst marinade, I'm afraid.

There were a couple more guinea pig trials that I underwent, you folks should be glad they were never marketed!

Iron City ain't bad.  I'm a yunzer too.  I used to drink a ton of Stoney's(brewery was founded by Shirley Jones' aka Mama Partridge grandfather.)  The brewery's 5 miles from my house.  They went bankrupt, Pittsburgh Brewing starting making it, doesn't taste the same.  Apparently the Youghiogheny water tastes better than the Allegheny water.  So I switched over to Straub, hailing proudly from St. Mary's, PA.  I'm a Newcastle fan as well.  But my heart and soul lies with Wild Turkey 101 and Jim Beam Rye.

I forgot to mention Warsteiner Dunkel. I don't like it as much as I used to since I discovered Newcastle, but it goes down smooth with no icky aftertaste.

Did someone say Jim Beam? Add Coke and lime: mmm!

I grew up on that beer.  Couldn't beat $10 per case back in high school.

Ok, OB isn't the worst beer.  Just gives you one hell of a hangover.

Just in from my beer-monger wife:

Quote
At a world brewing convention in the States, the CEOs of various brewing organizations retired to the bar at the end of each day's conference.

Bruce, CEO of Fosters, shouted to the Barman: "In 'Strylya, we make the best bladdy beer in the world, so pour me a bladdy Fosters, mate."

Bob, CEO of Budweiser, calls out next: "In the States, we brew the finest beers of the world, and I make the king of them all, gimme a Bud."

Hans steps up next: "In Germany ve invented das beer, ferdamt. Give me ein Becks, ya ist der real King of beers, danke."

Paddy, CEO of Guinness, steps forward: "Barman, would ya give me a diet coke with ice and lemon. Tanks."

The others stare at him in stunned silence, amazement written all over their faces. Eventually Bruce asks: "Are you not going to have a Guinness, Pat?"

Paddy replies "Well, if you fookin' pansies aren't drinkin', then neither am I!"

I just love the monikers given to the beers made in the brew pubs and mini breweries.  I don't much care for the taste, they're too hoppy, but I like the names.  We have a little brewery in W. Michigan (Founder's Brewing Co.) that puts out one called "Dirty Bastard".

I was a solid Bud Light drinker until the past couple of years.  Still do like it at times and it is good whne I want a cheap beer type substance to wash burgers and similar down.

Some of the better beers I have tried in the past few years....

Yuengling - I had never heard of it until a Publix opened near me.  Great stuff.  The light version out-Bud Lights the original

Fat Tire- very good heavier than I am used to, but I could definitely get used to it

Sam Adams Light - Doesn't taste like a light beer, but isn't as bitter as the original...

Corona- great with mexican food and a lime wedge in the neck

Pete's Wicked Ale Strawberry Blonde - fruity and easy to drink

Couple of better beers I have tried and didn't care for...

Guinness - mix equal parts steak and coffee and blend it up is the best way I know to describe the taste and texture of Guinness.......btw I hate coffee

Mississippi Mud Black and Tan - mix equal parts beer and coffee, managed to finish a quart so I could keep the bottle

Sam Adams Holiday Brew - like Killian's red, only worse

Yeah, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to "real" beer, but I just can't get past that bitter taste.

+1 Yuengling (lager) - I could drink this every day- if I could get it.  Great beer, especially for the price.

The new Sam Adams Black Ale is pretty good.

Bass is my favorite imported ale.

Just tried Fat Tire- also good stuff.

I like Guiness extra stout - Sam Smith Oat Meal Stout- and anything close to those.

Shiner Bock

Tucher Hefe Weizen- Sam Adams isn't too bad though.
