Well this thread is a sad state of affairs.  Multiple terrorists kill seven people and injure 50 more and we can only manage six half-hearted posts.  I'm not blaming any of you.  The sad part is these attacks have become so common that we barely look at the reports anymore.

Wasn't the official U.K. response to the Manchester attack to flood the streets with armed police and military? If that's correct ...

Armed police rushed to the scene and shot dead all three suspects within eight minutes of receiving the first emergency call and placed the area on lock down. Meanwhile medics wheeled away injured victims on stretchers while crying people wrapped in foil blankets were evacuated from the 'horrific' scene.

That's incomprehensible ... unless we recognize that the authorities actually have no idea how to combat this sort of thing, so everything they say and do is just security theater.

My understanding is that the stand down from the previous attack had already gone in to effect. What are they getting, a new attack every 9-14 days now?

Have you ever been to London?  Have you tried to maneuver around the area where the attack took place?

I have.  I'd call 8 minutes pretty good and would challenge police in any major metro area to be on site within 8 minutes of notification.

There's an armed unit nearby most of the time.  The unarmed bobbies you see aren't the only ones on duty and nearby.  IMO, they act as the "friendly" face of the police force in the UK.

Having been over there several times and having known and talked to UK citizens about this a number of times over the years, I'm not quite so prepared to claim they are doing it wrong (policing, that is).  Their citizen/police interactions are certainly more positive than ours and police aren't seen as pseudo military as it is here.  Even unarmed, their "beat cops" are probably better trained, equipped, and prepared to deal with the common policing issues of the day than our beat cops.

Do you think our police would have been faster to respond or would have gone head-to-head with these guys?  How many times do they stand back and wait for a SWAT team?

When there's a shooting, of almost any kind, in the U.S., the liberals IMMEDIATELY start screaming that we need more gun control. But, after the third Islamist terrorist attack in U.K. within a period of weeks, President Trump cogently observes that we need more control over what kind of people we allow into our country, and the left (in the person of Reza Aslan of CNN -- who happens to be Muslim) declares that the President is a piece of *expletive deleted*it.
