Boat drinks...or... slowly going crazy
« on: March 02, 2007, 06:02:15 PM »
I'm sitting here at the computer tonight going crazy.  I've been that way for weeks.  Can't stand to watch TV; can't go anywhere...where the hell would I go...what would I do that is free and that my wife would approve of?; I'm too tired to do anything useful or productive; I'm too disinterested in everything else. Then suddenly, like a bolt of lightning, the lyrics of an old Buffet song entered my head, and now I think I know why I feel the way I do.  I'm tired of this crap.

Boat drinks

1979
Boat drinks
Boys in the band ordered boat drinks
Visitors scored on the home rink
Everything seems to be wrong

Lately, newspaper mentioned cheap air fare
I gotta to fly to saint somewhere
Im close to bodily harm

Twenty degrees and the hockey games on
Nobody cares they are way too far gone
Screamin boat drinks, something to keep em all warm

This mornin, I shot six holes in my freezer
I think I got cabin fever
Somebody sound the alarm

Id like to go where the pace of lifes slow
Could you beam me somewhere mr. scott?
Any ol place here on earth or in space
You pick the century and Ill pick the spot

Oh I know, (I know)
I should be leaving this climate
I got a verse but cant rhyme it
I gotta go where its warm

Boat drinks
Waitress I need two more boat drinks
Then Im headin south fore my dream shrinks

I gotta go where its warm (I gotta go where its warm)
I gotta go where its warm (I gotta go where its warm)
I gotta go where its warm!

I gotta go where there aint any snow
Where there aint any blow
cause my fin sinks so low
I gotta go where its warm

Cabin fever's a bitch, huh? Everybody always says "take up a hobby!" but I've got like four and I really don't give a care to do anything with any of them. Tried music? If you've got a speedy (or so) internet connection, you could fuddle around with pandora.com, which is moderately fun, and can show you a lot of music you'll like that you've never heard of before.

There're some fun internet cartoons out there. I can swallow up an evening reading the archives of a webcomic, or watching Homestarrunner.com, or meandering around wikipedia (or any of the various other wikis, like uncyclopedia or encyclopaediadramatica, which are usually hilarious). The internet's a vast and humorous place, if you do a little digging.

Here's to hoping you feel better, Lee.

Speaking of Buffet, I scored tickets to his June 28th show in NoVa. I think they sold out in less than half an hour.

SWMBO is happy.  She's a fan.

Buffet concerts are a lot of fun...just don't become one of the characters of his songs, like I did more than a few years back..."lookin for my rent-a-car, was the Cordova blue or red".  I had to wait for nearly everyone to leave the parking lot before I remembered where I parked and what I was driving.

The one and only saving grace for me this week, has been my anti-snow device project.  I bought a snow plow for my ATV, and I've have spent the last couple of nights sorting hardware and putting it together.  I'll have it mounted this morning...so I'm predicting temps in the 80's by Monday.

No risk there.  This is our third Buffet concert.

SWMBO isn't a drinker, she's gonna be the DD. Smiley

We thought about going, but will have just gotten back from a trip, and are about to lay out $800 for a deposit on our August rental in Duck, NC, so we decided to pass.

Sorry.  Not cheap.  But you sound like you need a week in Key West.  Swmbo and I just got home from a 3 week time out in KW.  I highly recommend it for a midwinter blues fighter.  Get yourself a T-shirt that says "Jimmy doesn't live here anymore".

Stop by the library and grab a stack of books!  That's free.

I've even wandered around the library, browsing various sections, and grabbing books that look interesting or books about a particular subject that strikes me at the moment.  Or, go to the Fiction or Mystery sections, and do the same thing.

I just returned a stack of overdue library books (Resume books)- it cost me $13
I think that has a lot to do with my funk as well.  It sucks to be 50, hate your job,
and realize that you have so few alternatives.

Remember, Boat Drinks are great for washing down a bowl of Barometer Soup.
And when you're sending out resume's, under the heading of salary, Will play for Gumbo usually does the trick.

This is only a made up story...

In the process of convalescing from a hip surgery, some fella I used to know decided that he'd dig out a few old, now-defunct college textbooks and take a little target practice with his 9-rd .22lr High Standard revo.

Couple of rounds did jump under the big ol' white hutch, and left some really neat little holes...

this guy's SWMBO saw 'em, got pretty mad and suggested he have a talk with  some local shrink, with threats about taking off with kids and furniture and money and such...

Not sure what happened from there, it just strikes me as really really funny.  cool

I got cabin fever pretty bad, haven't done anything crazy yet, but I am on the urge.

I wish it was legal to blow something up in the middle of a field for medicinal purposes. Just to make a big bang and see it happen.
