On two occasions, I have been asked [by members of Parliament], "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" I am not able to rightly apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

This has happened, though it is fairly rare.  Feds will file a Habeas petition and have the Marshall's case removed to federal court, where it will be dismissed.  If they refuse, then I don't know.  Civil war...some kind of armed showdown...fed's capitulate?

How do the locals know that Feds are there, or who is being arrested, where and when? Are they notified of Fed activities in their AO, and if so, is that legally required or just professional courtesy? Could the Feds just grab their target out of the clear blue, and whisk them out of state?
