WA among states complying with mental health NICS requirement
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:14:52 PM »

I'm not at all comfortable with this federal law.  This applies a permanent prohibition on owning or possessing a firearm.  Trouble is, not all mental health issues are permanent.

WA among states complying with mental health NICS requirement

Washington is one of 11 states that have energetically complied with a three-year-old federal statute requiring states to provide the National Instant Check System (NICS) with the names of people who are mentally ill and thus disqualified from purchasing firearms.

What bothers me is that if one is temporarily incapacitated by traumatic injury, or other medical condition such as diabetic coma, one can be hospitalized without prejudice, but it one is temporarily incapacitated by a medical issue affecting the brain then it means a permanent stigma.  =(
