I keep my nails clipped close, yet I am dismayed that in recent years, dress socks just don't last me very long before developing holes over the great toe. If anyone has any suggestions for durable dark-colored dress socks that can be found at a mass-market store or on Amazon, I am all ears. GoldToe used to be my go-to brand, and their durability seems to have gone way down. I generally buy socks made of synthetic fibers as opposed to cotton; my experience with cotton dress socks was even worse durability.

Strideline. Love them.
Tablets acting up. I have three pair of the black and they are very comfortable and I haven't worn a hole in a two yet.

I have had good experience with Polo socks, you can usually find them at TJ Maxx.

Darn Tough brand. I buy them because like my work socks they are primarily merino wool, too many years in boots, cotton is the death of feet.

I fear that this is the type of controversial topic that will tear this board apart.

Darn it, how can we mend this division?

Darn Tough and Wigwam are great and seem to last forever. I've never bought their dress socks, but based on the hiking socks.
I recently tried some Weatherproof brand that I think I got at Costco that so far seem very comparable to Wigwam and Darn Tough, but less expensive that could pass for dress socks.

I get the bulk packs of black sport socks at Academy. The weave is close enough to a dress sock that it's 9nly a close look reveals the difference. There's extra material on the soles, a godsend given I'm on my feet about half the day. $12 for an 8-pack IIRC and I get a solid 6-8 months before they need replacing.
