Computer Gurus, I need help.
« on: August 19, 2013, 06:15:11 PM »
Okay, Windows 7 Home Premium, on an Asus Notebook with an Intel Core 2 Duo  (That seems redundant) P8700 @ 2.53 Gigahertz with 6.00GB installed running Firefox.  And now it will only let me copy and paste one time, then it will let me highlight, click copy but when I right click, the paste tab is greyed out it, along with "cut", "copy" and "delete".  WTF, over?
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

Obviously, you need some of this:

Have you attempted to restart the computer?

Are you sure it is plugged it?

Is it a particular application that is having cut 'n paste problems, or everything?

Have you tried forcing an unexpected reboot?

Everything.  I can do it once after I start up, but then it won't allow it again unless I close the laptop and basically start again.

Oh, and to everyone else that posted.  I appreciate the snark and humor.  It's APS so thread drift/hijacking is not expected but enjoyed !!!

I have no problems cutting/pasting/deleting/etc on my Lenovo T400 that has the same specs and software.  Try switching to to a Lenovo T400.

Do you have Skype, specifically Click-to-Call installed or running?

I've found that to be a common cause of the Clipboard not working.
I promise not to duck.

Yeah, Skype screwed up the clipboard within Excel specifically for me  Uninstalling and rebooting resolved the problem.

Please send me one and I can try that solution.  ;)

Nope, I don't do nun of them-thar fancy-fied computer stuff.  Yahoo E-mail, APS, Facebook, and Youtube. With the occasional search for some esoteric APS reference.

What anti-virus / antimalware software are you running?  Some have been known to cause this problem due to various settings being too tight.
Also, run some malware scans if you haven't already.  Badly written keylogger malware has been known to cause this problem, too.

System File Checker or "SFC" would be another place I'd start then.

A core DLL or something similar might be corrupt, or have been replaced by some well-meaning software that thought it knew better...

support.microsoft.com/kb/929833‎

Also, you can compile a little Visual Basic clipboard clearing tool and leave it on your desktop and hit it whenever Cut n Paste starts acting stodgy on you.  http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2396109/clearing-the-clipboard-using-vbscript

Just do what it says in the little tutorial. You could call on many .exe's instead of IE, but it's a safe bet since any copy of Windows will have IE in it.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/create-a-shortcut-or-hotkey-to-clear-the-clipboard-in-windows-vista/ You could also try this one that just makes a call with command arguments to clip.exe

Or, we can dig further to see what the Process ID is of the task/application that's messing with the clipboard and preventing you from using it.
