The Movie Ultraviolet...
« on: September 03, 2010, 09:57:25 PM »
...was not a productive use of my time.  Not so bad I am angry for my time loss, but the movie was pretty bad.

I, for one, am tired of movies with the chick who kills everyone and gets out of impossible situations.

Milla's usually a pretty gorgeous girl, even if she does need to eat a sammich.  But not in this movie.  She's pretty in Ultraviolet, I guess, but not exactly pulse-quickening.

Yeah, this was the only reason I watched it originally.  It was almost enough.
Almost.

It was released on the heels of Aeon Flux, wasn't it?

Kinda like Armageddon and Deep Impact?

And The Illusionist and The Prestige?

It's odd how the big movie houses get wind of what the other one is doing, and create nearly identical products at the same time to compete for an idea on the marketplace.

Now that I have watched all 124 minutes (they gotta be kidding) of the Vin Diesel movie "XXX" I have a new appreciation for the awfulness of Ultraviolet.  XXX gets pretty tedious about half-way into the Colombian fireworks show, so I had about an hour and a half to contemplate its various levels of FAIL.  In this process, I realized that, XXX being eight times better than Ultraviolet, UV must be quite a terrible film.

That being said, even Ultraviolet didn't have its villain summing up his master plan as "These guys go after those guys, those guys go after the other guys; soon the whole world implodes!"  Not to be outdone, Vin Diesel chooses for his tagline, "Welcome to the Xander zone."  Seriously?   =|

The movies are based on separate comics I believe so that may not be what happened, this time.

Nah, a bad movie done properly would be the Evil Dead series, specifically Army of Darkness as the crown jewel. :)

The epitome of the B-movie genre!

As for UV/Aeon Flux, at least A.F. just threw all pretense of "realism" to the wind and embraced the Sci-Fi full bore.

Fine, I'm putting The Fifth Element in the DVD player while you all keep discussing this movie.

Mul- ti- pahs!

That's a winner for bad movie done well.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

lol, the movie where Chris Tucker defined the phrase "over the top."  The first time I saw that movie I couldn't even figure out wtf he was supposed to be.

Another bad movie that was entertaining for me was Eight Legged Freaks.  But maybe I am alone on that one.

Didn't you just LOVE the very very realistic sword fighting scenes in UV?   =D
