I have heard of folks apparently using pantyhose.

Use of such might eventuate other...scenarios.

I you should ask RevDisk this question, he might be able to provide some insight as to the friction/flammability of panty hose..... ;)

Sigh.   Traditional silk, or modern nylon and a mixture of spandex?

Traditional silk would be maybe work.  I wouldn't recommend the nylon/spandex version.  Second repairing using duct tape instead.

Okay on a computer where I can actually type now:
IIRC, its been a few years....
What we did was take the duct tape and fold it in half, stick sides against each other.  Then we did it again, and again.  Once we had IIRC 3 layers of folded duct tape, we put it on tight, and then taped it together with a couple wraps.
It broke when the whole thing was under load while the jeep was climbing a rock.  Broke again for no apparent reason.  But we were able to repair the breaks and keep truckin.
I've also duct taped busted hoses, used duct tape to hold a battery cable on the battery, and god knows what else I can't remember.  Jeeping is fun, you gotta be resourceful when someone busts something.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Is that where the duct tape comes in useful...?   >:D
