Title: Lost Dutchman Mine (Game)
Post by: Ben on March 05, 2017, 11:59:27 AM
Yee-Haw! Thanks to Abandonware, I found the old game, "Lost Dutchman Mine" I used to love playing it on my old Atari, to the point of looking around and realizing it was 0100.

I had completely forgotten the actual name of the game after all these years, but was directed to Abandonware via a story I was reading (already knew about the site and have had Wing Commander loaded in DOSbox for a while) and ran into the game while browsing. The title smacked me in the face and I am now spending a rainy morning happily playing away. :)

Except for I just now heard the funeral dirge that indicates I died while typing this because I put the game in the background and forgot to pause it. Dangit. Now I'm off to fish and pan for gold so I can eat and afford to buy another pistol and some tools to go mining.

Oh yeah, link in case anyone is interested:

Awesome!  And I hate you.

I've been wanting to get the Command and Conquer series and now I can.

You can only partially hate me. I forgot who, but one of these other jackasses around here turned me onto D-Fend Reloaded and DOSbox some time ago.

What are you using to run it?

I tried running it in the inbrowser emulator. Loads up to the point where it asks what color source you want to run -- VGA, EGA, etc. -- and freezes there. No input accepted, no way to move it forward.

Yeah, I can't run in browsers either.

DOSbox / D-Fend reloaded seem to be the only reliable way to run these games close to how they originally worked. Plus you then have the option of saving long-ass games on the virtual disk.

But in the browser or in DOSbox?

Download.  Can't run install.  Haven't tried DOSbox.

I only briefly looked at all of this. Is Dosbox a download, or what?

Yeah. The easy way to do it is to use D-Fend Reloaded. DOSbox itself can be a little complicated to install and tweak. D-Fend is a GUI that basically sets it up with decent parameters and makes it easy to import and launch DOS programs into the emulator.
