My ex wife left me on Valentine's day a few years ago. I still hate the day.

St. Valentine's day is a stupid holiday.

It gets some people all worked up that they think they have to get something (like the sun and moon) from a significant other.

The ultimate "Hallmark Holiday".
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

My ex-wife and I got married on March 15th.  That should've been a clue.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

My MiL left my FiL on V-day when my wife was... 11 I think. We don't celebrate it.

My husband's first girlfriend broke up with him (via email) on Valentine's Day.

This seems to be an awfully common phenomenon.

Oddly, he still wants to celebrate it.  I don't like hallmark holidays as a rule, but will usually accept free chocolate, whatever the excuse.  =)

Mine will be spent in complete solitude, computer off, cell phone off, TV already non-existent.

Please don't.

Back in my dating days I used to get pissed (inside of course) when I'd tell I'm going to take my future ex-girlfirend someplace nice for dinner and they show up jeans on. I'd be dressed in slacks and nice shirt, sometimes a sport coat and tie depending upon the weather.

Yeah, if my future ex-wife did something like that for dress-up night, I'd have to have words with her, too.

"Future Ex-Wife" is a common term we used in my squadron to refer to then-current girlfriends, Charby.   ;)

Gotcha

I used to refer to my buddys about any female I may want to date as my future ex girlfriend.

If a guy wants a specific type of dress up, he should be more explicit.  Is there some rule that women are required to read minds?

This kind of thing goes both ways, gentlemen.

True, but chances are if she looks at his level of attire, and the thought crosses her mind that she's perhaps under-dressed for the occasion...

No it doesn't, going someplace nice means one dresses up or at least asks what should I wear.

Yup.

My sentiments exactly, Charby.

Wife #2 knows if we're going out to a nice restaurant, jeans and flannel shirt just ain't gonna cut it.   ;)

Well, Blue said the word used was "presentable."  To me, that generally mean "clean and in good repair."
