I'm always a silver lining, glass half-full kinda guy.

(Although I'm always wary the half full glass might be piss...)

I do think that the Manson murders did help bring the hippy phase of the counterculture to an end. And that's not a bad thing. I think most here know the truth that it definitely had its dark underside, full of class-envy and hatred for the "squares". Much like the rhetoric we've heard from the Occupy movement and Antifa. It was not all free love and pot/LSD, and Woodstock.

While it's certainly still execrable for any number of reasons, it seems that the cultural Zeitgeist for the "cool kids" started shifting to the Disco era. Still hedonistic, but much more materialistic, and lacking in that drive to "change society" for the most part.
I promise not to duck.

And I was hoping he died before the murders.

"I've never killed a man, but I have read some obituaries with great satisfaction."

(Often attributed to Mark Twain, there's some doubt he actually said this. But it sounds like it's in character. And it fits here.)
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.
Sometimes I wonder if the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it. - Mark Twain
Government is a broker in pillage, and every election is a sort of advance auction in stolen goods. - H.L. Mencken
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it. - Mark Twain
