Best photo editing shareware
« on: February 10, 2022, 03:09:07 PM »
It's been so long since I used my old Canon EOS (2nd gen EOS IIRC)  that I'm several computers along since the last time I did any real photo editing.

I got rid of my old Elements program when I moved. After looking it up to see if the version I had would run on modern computers I saw it was so old there wasn't an easy workaround to make it worthwhile. I preferred a download anyway as I would have had to hook up my external disc drive to this laptop.

Anyone have personal experience using any shareware for Windows?
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

I don't know if it is best or not but for basic stuff like resizing, cropping and color correction I use IrfanView64. For full throated editing I have played with GIMP in the past, it is very photo shop like.

Thanks Bob, I'm actually a fan of Irfanview and it goes on all my computers for the reasons you pointed out.

I thought maybe there was something out there more like my Elements that had a little more in the way of functions.

GIMP is what all the cool kids use.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Forgot all about Gimp ...

Irfanview and Faststone take care of most of what I need. Beyond that -- GIMP. But GIMP has (IMHO) a very steep learning curve.

The link in that article doesn't lead to a page where you can download Photoshop.
