Another addition to my gun collection.
« on: February 22, 2014, 08:04:40 PM »
Shotgun called a Sjögren. The first inertia recoil shotgun from 1909, and some think it actually beat the Browning Auto-5, patent wise or to market, as the first semi-auto shotgun. Just got in to the not so local gun store. Ordered it from a private seller and had it shipped in. Finished the paperwork earlier today and now I have the joy of waiting on the California mandatory 10 day waiting period before I get to actually take possession of it., because otherwise I would totally go out on a shooting spree with my antique. It shoots 12 gauge, 2 1/2" shells, had to order in a box of 250 rounds from rstshells.com. Here is an interesting video of it where I first learned about it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XznhQ35AxCQ Shooting video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2C5eKkPl_k

No videos but they have a section on it, http://www.forgottenweapons.com/sjogren-shotgun-photos/ And apparently there was also a rifle made, http://www.forgottenweapons.com/early-semiauto-rifles/sjogren-rifle-shotgun/ But information on that is even more scarce.

I like to learn something every day!

Fascinating and thanks.  Well-done videos, good delivery --no Uhhhs and Ahhhs and Ummmms.  And your fingernails were clean!

I wonder if it would have worked with those Aguila shorty shotshells, LOA slightly less than 1-1/2".  Pretty low power, though, maybe not enough oomph to unlock the breech or set the slide back.  But might be worth a try.

One of my High School teachers was named Mr. Sjögren, and we pronounced it "show`-gren," corrupted to Mr. Show-a-grin when he wasn't around.

What did you have to give for it?

I can't imagine that they're particularly plentiful, even in Sweden...

I've seen a few listed on auction sites. Supposedly 5000 of them were made for the Swedish market. Sjögren also designed rifles with the same system, and was designing a pistol with the same system that was never put into production because the blueprints were never finished. I'm reading a bit about it right now, and apparently, only 9 rifles total were made from that design, in 3 different calibers - 3 in 6.5x55, 3 for the the Danish 8x58 RD cartridge, and 3 for 7.62x54R.

The shotguns generally go for around 2500-3000 kronor here (~$360 - $430).

Getting one of those would be neat. The one sent in to the British Army trial apparently resides in the British Pattern Room, wonder where the others are.
Mine cost me $995 which seems to be the normal price but I've heard since it doesn't come up very often the price can vary on places like gunbroker. Simpsonsltd has two listed, one for $950 and one for $1295.
Apparently there were 500 or 600 alternate barrel lengths made, seen one for sale once with one listed with it, would love to try to get one.

There's atleast one in a museum in Denmark. I forgot to mention that the 9 rifles were the official numbers - the one(s) in the Danish museum might be one of these, or it could be that they made more of them for army trials, say in the UK or elsewhere.

I don't recall seeing any.
Speaking of which, if you bought some type of firearm from someone from another country, how would that work? Would you have to pay a bunch of money to get it over here. Would it have to get scarred up with import marks? Can it even be done?

Those Aguila minishells? I wonder too. From what I have read some people have had to modify their pump actions to get them to work right.
