Who wants some artillery?
« on: February 07, 2011, 10:39:12 PM »
Here at the Viking Machine Compound, we're looking at the feasibility of making and selling a few black powder mortars and cannons. Figuring on starting with a golf ball mortar, maybe a golf ball cannon, and probably a tennis ball cannon, maybe a tennis ball mortar.

Any of you guys interested?

How about a tennis ball tipped RPG?

Any ballpark idea on pricing?

Try to miss my house if you aim west. Go straight down 54, I'm a little north of that.

I'm going to try to have the golf ball mortars come in at under $250 shipped... (I can probably stuff 'em in a USPS Flat Rate box...).

Fun stuff.

Are they going to be limited to black powder?  I inherited some ancient 2400 in a monster sized tin that is begging to be used up in a non-cartridge application.

They are going to be black powder only. We don't recommend stuffing anything but the recommended load of recommended powder and the recommended projectile in it...

That said, your 2400 is probably still good, and you should be able to use it as trade bait with someone who reloads for magnum handguns.

Want? Yes.  Is this even a question?

Can afford?  Not so much. Bummer.

How about a black powder M203 knockoff for my AR?

I'd be interested in one. Maybe in a caliber equal to a Coors Light can. One of my old Provost Marshals was married to an arty officer and thats what they used in his BP cannon. They filled the empty cans with sand and launched them down range.

a pyrodex pellet fired 50 or 75 cal scaled parrott rifle would be quite cool

make the breech like the TC firestorm and have it be primer fired

What I want is something simple, portable, and fool proof that offers performance similar to the 20 and 30mm anti-material rifles, but still counts as non-fixed ammunition, or muzzle loading etc. so there's no NFA DD complications.

Practice with it a few times, then put it away for "just in case".  =)
I promise not to duck.

You might increase your customer base if you also dealt with smaller cannon, say 1/2"-3/4" bore.

Here's my 1/2" cannon I cranked out in a couple of hours when I had my lathe:

Of course, many who have a lathe could produce one of these pretty easily, but just think of all the Independence Day bangers who don't, and would like one of these for, say, $75-$100 or whatever.

The wheels got knocked off from recoil, but have been replaced since this pic.  The shot is just for show --they're actually .44 lead balls from an 1858 Remmy I had.

Want? Yes.

Afford? Possibly.

Have a place to utilize it? No.  =|

So she's turned into a "ladyfriend", has she?

And you were thinking about buying jewelry?

Is there something we should know about?

I'd like a safe and shootable 1/2 scale mountain howitzer with a golf ball bore for under $300 for the barrel.

I'll build my own carriage to scale.

Depending on details, I could very well be in for a $200-$300 piece of artillery,

Just a recommendation, but pick a size that nicely fits a relatively cheap ball bearing as well.   ;)

Much more entertaining than golf balls
