Here we go again
Don't know if you've kept up with the news from Haiti but their President was just assassinated, in his own home no less, and the country is in turmoil

I see also that of the persons captured after the assassination, a couple of them are Haitian-Americans, and at least six used to be in the Columbian Army. I will be interested to see the reason for the assassination.

The 2nd time today this sentiment seems appropriate -
Lift off and nuke the site from high orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
-
Fuuuuuuuuck that.
I've been to Port-au-Prince once in uniform. There's nothing there we need, and nothing we can fix.

Not so fast - we can teach them about white rage and pronouns.
-
Yea...
Facts:
Haiti is a sovereign nation.
Instability in Haiti does not present a global/US security issue. (Loose nuke, etc)
Conclusion:
It would be inappropriate for the united states or any other country to deploy military force in response to the internal affairs of another sovereign nation. The people of Haiti have the right to determine their own destiny free of outside influences.

Drop in the Drag Queen battalion and the Binary-Fluid Space Ninjas. [tinfoil] [popcorn] :old:

When has that ever stopped us?

Armed them with Be Kind signs since guns are icky

Well... it really should, in my opinion. But maybe that's why I'm not in control of such things.

Fixed.
We know that you have plans.

Remember when Trump outraged all right thinking people by calling Haiti a @$!#hole?
And Conan O'Brien took a vacation in Haiti to prove what a wonderful country it was...
I do.

This seems like it falls under the UN's umbrella. Doesn't Somolia have some troops we can slap a blue helmet on and ship to Haiti?

I agree with that last. They need to clean up their own mess. Using outside influence to clean it up doesn't solve the problem.

Did the Clintons leave anything to loot?

Little suprise there.
I have been to a few foreign cities/countries in the Western Carribean. Belize City was probably the worst. We took a city tour where the “prosperous” area of the city was like inner city Detroit or LA and the shantytown slums was absolutely horrifying as to the condition people were living in. Outside of the waterfront and resorts Cozumel is a very rough city that looks very nasty.
Places like that earn the shithole title. You won’t catch any American leftist in those areas either.
Each and every one of those countries

When we were flying out of Djibouti in the 80/90s we would stay in our 90 dollar a night fancy hotel with a casino in the basement. On the way in for an early morning preflight you had to be careful not to run over any lumps on the road, it could be people sleeping on the asphalt to stay warm. I also saw people living in large bushes with cardboard shoved in them to provide walls. There was a nice small area in town where the French Foreign Legion and other foreigners could get some decent food and drink. The rest of the city was a shithole. I imagine once they built that military base there a lot of people's fortunes changed while the abjectly poor stayed that way. There are shitholes all over the world.

the good news is it is a lot closer than Viet Nam

The only downside to the US not getting involved is that if we don't China and/or Russia (or maybe Cuba) will.

It appears Cuba is having some trouble of their own.

I wonder if the Dominican Republic is doing anything, other than beefing up their border guards of course. ;)

Did you get a ride from us? My last ship LHA-4 went down there to pick up a bunch of engineer types, SEABEEs and some Army. I had not enough shots to go ashore, didn't see anything from anchorage that made me want to go either.

Used to be that the US would deploy troops in order to keep socialism from taking root, now it seems likely the opposite is true . . .

Nah, we took the Army boats over. Supposed to deliver humanitarian supplies, ended in a shitshow that had my HMMWV cursed with a chicken sacrifice.

And how'd those deployments work out for us? Communism is the collective form of heroin: Doesn't matter how much outside help there is, until the addict wants to quit, they won't.

Sounds like they're getting fed up
This is the horrifying moment suspected Haitian gang members beg for mercy before a vigilante lynch mob stones and burns them alive.
The mob beat and burned 13 men to death with gasoline-soaked tyres on Monday after pulling them from police custody at a traffic stop, police and witnesses in the capital Port-au-Prince said.
Six more burned bodies were seen in a nearby neighbourhood later on in the day, and witnesses claimed to have seen police kill them before residents set them on fire. News agencies said this could not be verified.

Wouldn't be the first time Democrats got nervous about a Haitian-style revolt spreading to their own plantations.

I wonder if it was a better place when Papa Doc and then Baby Doc Duvalier ran it.
