Woman Swallows Cell Phone After Argument
Associated Press
December 23, 2005

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (AP) - It was a conversation stopper. A lovers' dispute over a cell phone took a serious turn early Friday morning when the woman ended the spat by swallowing the phone whole.

Police said they received a call at 4:52 a.m. from a man who said his girlfriend was having trouble breathing. When they arrived at the house they found the 24-year-old woman had a cell phone lodged in her throat.

"He wanted the phone and she wouldn't give it to him, so she attempted to swallow it,'' Detective Sgt. Steve Decker of the Blue Springs Police Department. "She just put the entire phone in her mouth so he couldn't get it.''

Police said an ambulance transported the woman to St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs. A hospital spokeswoman said she couldn't give details about the woman's health since police have not released her identity.

Decker said police had closed investigations on the swallowing, the first such incident of its kind here.

"This is the first I've heard of this happening,'' said Decker. "I don't know what kind of phone it was. I don't know if it was on ring or vibrate, either.'' (PROFILE (COUNTRY:United States; ISOCOUNTRY3:USA; UNTOP:021; APGROUP:NorthAmerica;)

I would have called it if I were the boyfriend, just to hear it ringing in her neck Smiley

It may have been a RAZR phone, those are not much larger that a standard playing card.

The RAZR is surprisingly big. Thin, but otherwise big.

It may have been one of those weird Nokia's from a year or two back, long but not deep nor wide. Sort of looked like a tampon case. No keyboard on it, everything was done via a rotary knob.

Peter Griffin swallowed a mobile once. That says all we need to know about this lady.

Thanks for encouraging me to try it with my slider.

It won't fit.  Keeps hitting that thing that if you hit hard/long enough, it makes you throw up.

My Samsung flipper might go in my mouth, and I could see how jamming it in there might get it stuck.  No, I'm not about to try it, not even for science.

My Nextel/Motorola i530B certainly wouldn't be easy to swallow.

I'm surprised the cell phone lodged in the throat scenario didn't come about as a result of a traffic accident where the 'victim' was talking on the cell phone when causing the accident and had it jammed down their throat by another angry motorist.

That reminds me of a joke (not fit for mixed company) about a guy with a monkey in a bar Smiley

You know, since this has to do with a woman trying to swallow a cell phone, I think you can just leave it at she wasn't thinking.

Last night's news report said the suspicion now is that the lady had a little, ahem, help with regard to the ingestion of said phone.

It would have been so much easier just to get two phones on the family plan.
