Afghanistan report bombshell: US officials misled public about war for nearly 2 decades

Quote
Since 2001, more than 775,000 American service members have deployed to Afghanistan. Of those, 2,300 were killed and 20,589 were wounded in action, according to the Defense Department.

US officials acknowledged in the interviews that their military strategies were fatally flawed and that Washington wasted huge amounts of money trying to remake Afghanistan into a modern nation.

They also shed light on the US government’s failed attempts to curtail runaway corruption, build a functional Afghan army and police force, and control Afghanistan’s lucrative opium trade.

Some of this was known.  Similar problems with the Iraq War and occupation.

IMO, time to work toward getting out of there.

Today, somewhere on a FOB in Afghanistan, an ANA officer went to his US counterpart and exclaimed: "How dare the US say that we are corrupt!!  This is a horrible insult!!  We will no longer do the missions we agreed to until you give us $50,000 as apology!"

Also a ANPF guard will be so insulted the only available response is a mag dump from his AK into a passing US vehicle.  But he doesn't do weapons maintenance, so it'll jam after 11 rounds.

so basically it's another Wednesday.

While this doesn't help, the issue here is the fact that inside every Persian (or Pashtun, Tajil, Pashai, Arab, or any of the others I'm forgetting) there is not, in fact, an American trying to get out.  Pretending they will come about to our culture is going to be perennially disappointing until we give up and leave and let them get back to killing each other.

Its weird how every time there's a <insert ethnicity> with an American inside trying to get out, they've also had a 3000-5000 year history of mostly disfuctional culture that's been either insular or barbaric, or both. Its also weird how there were very few 'American' ideals until America came around (they were present to certain extents in a few notable past empires).

Maybe instead of bombing people into democracy, we could export some of our 'magic dirt' by the containership load, and people will magically become Americans and adopt American ideals simply by being exposed to it.
