I work in retail, sort of, so no surprise I had to work today. But the odd thing is that the boss made sure we got out early for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. But we still had to come in at 7 am today, although the place isn't open for customers until 10 am. There's nothing urgent to do in the morning, really, so we could have come in at 9 or 10.
??? What's the point of getting off early for either day, if you have to wake up at the normal time, after New Year's Eve? Doesn't that seem a little off?

Is there really three hours of work before the store opens?
I worked about half a day, catching up on things I was too busy to do during the week.

I left early today, working just half a day. I didn't absolutely need to go in, there were just a few loose ends to tie up after returning yesterday from another site out of state.

Maybe he made you come in early because he thought that - being in a general state of stupor after new years eve - you guys would take 3 hours to do what would normally take one. :laugh:

Family and I went to the Zoo Mall today. Kaybee is going out of business, got the kids some toys for stupid cheap.

I'm a security guard on a military base, so today was just another Thursday. Time and a half pay, though.

Worked last night and tonight (so, obviously, I slept through New Year's Day itself). People are SO unreasonably demanding, expecting when they turn on their faucets that they'll get clean water out! =D
My job history - 6 years in the Navy, 8.5 in civilian nuclear power, and now almost 3 in water treatment and production - yeah, holidays falling on days I'm scheduled to work are basically just like any other days I'm scheduled to work, except for a little more money in the paycheck and somewhat less management presence (which is no small thing, really). I did have Christmas Day scheduled off for the first time in several years, and this being my first Christmas with the wife and (step)kids, it was very nice.

I'm working today, making time and a half. I worked yesterday too, so just a couple average week days for me. I worked Christmas Day too, but got the 24th off.
The thing that I hate about working the holidays is how slow we are. Today is about half the normal volume, Christmas was maybe a quarter. I really detest slow 12 hour workdays, they always seem to last about 18 hours.

I would have loved to work New Year's Day. Unfortunately, Sears gave me all of 9 hours to work this week. :rolleyes:

That you could fire yourself, then sue yourself for wrongful termination?
Working security here, and it's a site that only has coverage outside normal business hours, so we work more hours over the holidays. OTOH, it's quieter, which makes up for a lot.

Does an 11 hour day count? Then yep, I did. The bright side is it was at time and a half.

Fell asleep at 11 new years eve after 3 beers.
Poked around all day new years day. Went to the range for about 4 hours in the evening. I signed up 2 new members, does that count as work?

Back in November, the bright voters of the City of Milwaukee approved a binding referendum requiring employers to give paid sick days to all employees whether full or part-time. Employers with 10 or fewer employees must give 5 days a year, while those with 11 or more employees must give 9 days a year.
If I'm sick, how can I collect my sick pay? Who pays me?
I'm so confused. I've been sick in bed the last two days, but every time the phone rang I got up to handle orders.

[Added by edit: actually, that's not an accurate description.
He wasn't like a great grandfather or anything
but had "cousin" status on one side of my family.
But we're sure he was our relative. ]
He didn't get "sick days".
He just did what he needed to survive.
I follow his lead.
