How many of you think there will be a President Obama?
« on: February 24, 2008, 07:46:08 PM »
Last election Kerry ran on the "I'm not Bush" platform.  This election the Democrats have somebody that has such a cult following it sickens even Paul Krugman:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/11/opinion/11krugman.html

This election the Democrats are in love with on of their candidates.  It seems that the mainstream media is in love with Obama as well.  On the other hand conservative radio shows seem to despise McCain.  It was only until the NYT's "smear" that people started to rally behind McCain.  The only advantage republicans seem to have this round is that while Obama and Hillary are cutting each others throats Huckabee and McCain seem to be treating each other rather well.

I think Obama is setting up to be another McGovern.

More like Carter.....but not as competent. He'll be a one-term embarassment at best, but he will be elected.....mostly because of the number of people who DON'T vote in November (conservatives, Hillary supporters, Paulistas, etc.).......
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

+1!

At first I thought that Obama would stir the redneck vote against him.  The trailer parks would empty and all the raciists would head to the polling place.
That was a short sighted opinion.
Obama is a full on cult of personality.  The guy that sells you a used car smelling like a dead body in the trunk, and you walk away feeling good about it.
The people that are supporting him are tired of Bush, Neo Cons, and "sell out" democrats.  They hear a message of Change, and actually don't even care what that change really is.  Its frightening, but deep down its not surprising.
On top of that, is the vote for him because he's black crowd.  People are so excited that he's running, and pretending he's the first black candidate for president (Alan Keyes or Al Sharpton, anyone?), that they want to vote for him just to appear progressive.  Forget that the man is a true blue rob the rich and entitle the poor socialist....
Sad.  Sad.  Sad.

I saw a good description of that sort of "diversity" liberal voter in the paper.

They're wealthy white suburbanites who know a black lawyer, a Hispanic doctor and some well-off gays, and declare that they know "diversity".

As for Obama, anyone notice his Malcom X Lite act in some of his recent speeches? Talk about a guy who knows how to play a specific audience while still saying nothing. He'll be a GOOD puppet for Daley, for sure.

Still not sure which democrat we'll have, but we'll have a democrat, because a good 5-10% of the Republican party will vote for a write-in (as they are being encouraged to do via internet folks from Democratic National Headquarters), or just stay home.

Bingo.
The Democrats have an unfailing ability to choose the weakest candidate, going back to McGovern.
When pinned down to actual policies, Obama will appear like the empty suit he is.  McCain will just slaughter him in the debates.
And a lot of people will not tell pollsters they wouldn't vote for Obama because they dont want to be seen as racists.  But in the privacy of the voting booths it will be different.

Either Democrat will beat McCain, who will look old, tired and wheezy by comparison.  That will bring out more young people to vote, as they already have in the primaries.  As people begin to see how similar McCain and Bush are, that will kill off more votes, a lot of them Republican voters who will just stay home.  IOW, McCain will get his wrinkly old ass handed to him in November.  cheesy

Sort of like the German people were looking for in the 1930s, right? They got change all right - hoo, BOY, did they ever get change!  rolleyes

On top of that, is the vote for him because he's black crowd.  People are so excited that he's running,  . . . that they want to vote for him just to appear progressive.
That's why a crook like Harold Washington won the mayor's race in Chicago years ago. (This was between the original Daley I and the current Daley II)

Actually, I find some humor in this - the Clintons have been courting the black vote for years - Bill Clinton was our first "black" President - but now that there's a man running that actually has black blood, blacks are abandoning Hillary, by about 9 to 1 in some counts.  grin
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

There is a certain satisfaction about this.  The Clintons really pandered to the Black Establishment and now are getting kicked in the nuts anyway.  I guess it shows that the GOP strategy of not pandering to them was the right one anyway.

I'm guessing we may see another swing in the black vote - a lot of them are kneejerking and voting for the guy because of his race. That may change as they take a closer look at him.

  God willing...

If we are going to go down the road to hell then lets take the slowest route and go with a democrat.

I still wont vote for any of them.  I will be writing in Ron Paul or possibly voting for Nader, depending on how I feel that election day.

Because you seem to think either Hillary or NObama would be a better choice than Mcstain.
Neither one would be a friend of the taxpayer.  Both nitwits actually think that they can pull us out of Iraq and just spend the same amount of money on social programs.

That's right.  Continuing to send the country into further debt so that everyone can have free health care.  Great idea.

Got it - unless you've appointed yourself devil's advocate, you're deliberately trying to write things that any normal person would find both outrageous and asinine, just so you can sit back and laugh at the reaction.

I'd rather kill the thousands of people.....it's cheaper and creates more defense-industry jobs.....

....but I don't want us spending American money to rebuild their nation when they shouldn't have provoked us in the first place.....it's like paying for the ER care for the burglar you just shot.....

I dont seem to remember Iraq provoking us.  How did they?

I would rather do the more morally acceptable approach than kill innocent people.  I dont get all happy at the thought of violence like many GOP members do.  Especially when they are not actually having to do the violence.  As far as defense industry jobs, why not health-care jobs?  Or construction jobs in our country?
