What won't your dog eat ?
« on: January 05, 2011, 09:58:36 PM »
Dropped some mushroom slices on the floor making dinner.  Now normally the Killer Attack Beagle hoovers up every food molecule that hits the ground.  Not this time, nope.  Licked it and left it there.

BTW, Mushroom slices stick like they were superglued to Oak hardwood floors.....

Are Beagles really dogs?  I always figured they were a dog/vacuum cleaner hybrid.  =D

Mine won't eat fruits or vegetables and has shown no inclination to get into any liquid other than water or the occasional soupy type meat leftovers.

My dog who died last year would not eat vegetables, except fried squash, nor would she eat raw fruit. She also loved french fries and mashed potatoes, but not baked potato. She loved decaf iced tea (sweet of course)...to the point where she would climb up onto a table chair and stick her long nose down any glass on the table and drink tea...she never knocked over a glass. Had to be careful when you left the table to go use the restroom or answer the phone.

Naturally, she loved meat, pork, and poultry.

Gumdrops. Throw him one, and he'll catch. After a while, he'll spit it out again, all the sugar gone.

My Treeing Walker coonhound will eat just about anything.

Mushrooms, you bet.  Jalapenos, onions, garlic, apples, tomatoes, no problem. Can of Raid Yardguard, yep.  Plastic birdhouse filled with 5 pounds of bird seed, you betcha.  I swear she was cross bred with a goat.  And yes, she ate the feeder and seed.  She was pooping seeds and red plastic for a week.  I guess she didn't really "eat" the can of Raid.  I just found the empty can with teeth holes punched through it.  But she really tried!

The only thing mine won't eat the is leafy vegetables.  Give her some romaine lettuce, she will eat the rib but leaves the leafy part alone.  Everything else she will eat.  If you get ice from the ice maker in the fridge, she is there wanting you to put a couple of cubes on the kitchen rug.  Her very favorite non-meat is red bell pepper.  She goes nuts when she knows that is in play.

Both of our last dogs would eat pretty much anything. The one that died a year ago would stop trying to eat something if I yelled. The previous one would just continue to wolf stuff down.

Once she ate a full cartridge that fell out of my progressive press. It came out the next day. She ate a pair of my wife's pantyhose once, which I found out quickly from a vet could be fatal, so I had to give her hydrogen peroxide. She lapped that up as well, and a few minutes later upchucked the pantyhose.

Main ingrediant is fish oil.

Beagle-daschund mix we had when I was a kid would eat almost anything but mushrooms.  When my mom would make beef burgandy she'd sometimes gives the last little bit to the dog.  He'd eat everything, but every single mushroom which would be licked clean but left in the bowl.

Our current dog is actually kind of picky.  She's a German Shepherd/Chow mix (.75/.25).  If it's not land-mammal or avian meat, she generally leaves it alone. Some fish she'll eat, but not all.  Fruits/veggies are almost never eaten by her.  As long as we remember to feed her on time the garbage is quite safe.

Not true!  I got in an argument with someone about this.

Anything not meat or dairy, or that doesn't taste like meat or dairy, or is not greasy. The exception is that she likes many types of cookies.

The old dog, pretty much anything food but celery and raw onion. He wasn't much of a non-food eater, which is always nice from a vet bills perspective.

Raw veggies and raw fruit. Dropped a piece of salad the other day.  She licked off the dressing and left the lettuce.

My lab: Animal, Vegetable or Mineral she'd eat it. Kills her bowl of food in less than 30 seconds.

My Weimaraner: Very picky, I have to switch the flavor of dog food each bag. Finally found two brands he likes too, Purina One and Purina Pro Plan. I tried IAMS, Science Diet, Nutros, etc and he might make it a week then refuse to eat it for a day or two. Took him to the vet and there was nothing wrong with him just a picky eater. I think he gets bored with the same food after a while, but the Purina stuff with meat chunks in it he likes.

I bought this months 40# bag of Purina One chicken and it didn't have meat chunks in it, I didn't read the label and its just kibble, he has been eating it like its crack. Normally it takes him 5-10 minutes to eat 2.5 cups of food but he gets down to business with this stuff.

Both of them love milk bones, we always keep a healthy supply of them on hand.

You have a biscuit eater? Our last dog was like that when he was young, but we trained him to stop. Don't remember how, though.

Stupid beagle.

Back, oh, about 30 years ago our dog (our only dog to this point, a blue merle Aussie rescued from the pound) consumed an entire one pound jar of A&D Ointment.  It came out her aft end as a soupy yellow paste.

The late, great Ten the GSP once wolfed down the remains of two pizzas a buddy & I had ordered.  Nothing left of the pizzas, except for the mushrooms scattered about the floor.

Unbeknown to us, our female lab/rott/pitt mix ate three feet of unraveled berber carpet.

One foot came out, she spent about an hour in the yard scooting her butt around to get the other two feet out, staring back over behind herself in terror at the chain of carpet/turds that was chasing her.

Our male dobie-lab mix would eat anything also. Band-aids, garbage, plastic bags, feminine hygiene products, kids toys like stuffed animals.

One would think both would have died of obstructions, or cost us thousands in emergency gastric surgery, but the female died at four of auto-immune hemolytic anemia. And the male had to be put down due a stroke/brain-tumor/seizure disorder at seven.
I promise not to duck.

My lab will eat pretty much anything, including her own poop.  She also loves beer and vodka.

My Chow on the other hand will eat any kind of meat, most fruits and some vegetables.  He will eat something he normally wouldn't on occasion, just so the lab can't have it.
